The Hebraic month of Iyar 5786 begins on Friday, April 17th on the Gregorian calendar. For us Hebraic thinkers who follow Messiah, it is Iyar 5786. As we enter the second month of the Hebraic sacred year, we will see a new moon in the sky. A new moon means a new month. Another page of our year will turn. It is time to stop and reflect upon the month we have just been through. Also, it is time to look forward and/or prepare for what the new month of Iyar entails for us.
We are leaving the month of Nissan behind us now. Nissan was all about a new year. Iyar is the second month of the sacred year. We are still seeking God’s will and beginning to learn how to step into our purpose and destiny for this new year. What would He have us focus on in Iyar?
IYAR IS A BRIDGE
A wise Rabbi told me to consider that Iyar is like part of a bridge from Passover to Pentecost. At Passover we crossed over to a new sacred year. This month, Iyar 5785, we are walking across a bridge to a place of transformation. This transforming place prepares us for our new destiny. We are still counting the Omer as we go through Iyar 5786. Each day as we count we examine our life before God. It is a way to prepare for Pentecost. I hope you are still remembering to count. The counting of the omer is important for our spiritual development during this year.
I love the enthusiasm of Debi Gatlyn as she speaks of Iyar. Here is her talk. Her thoughts give us insight, and these insights are a great way to think about the meanings connected to the month of Iyar. https://youtu.be/Fo96l9wcX-8?si=BjOF5Q_OvyatJ0gD.
ISSACHAR
The tribe recognized in the month of Iyar is Issachar. This month would be a great time to study Israel’s blessing pronounced over Issachar. He speaks of a donkey bearing burdens. This metaphor could mean that Iyar is a time in which we are called to help bear the burdens of one another. We must keep in mind one of those two great commandments, to love our neighbor as ourselves.
TARUS
We don’t do horoscopes here, but we do look at the constellations God placed in the sky at creation. These constellations tell God’s stories. Tarus is a bull. Not just a bull, but Tarus is the bull of sacrifice. This month is a perfect time to make sacrifices unto The Lord. If you missed your chance to bring a sacrifice at Passover, this is also the month of the 2nd Passover. If you aren’t familiar with this concept, it might be a great time to look into it to gain further understanding.
MEANINGS
Iyar means “radiance.” When you hear this word you think of God’s Glory. God’s Glory is radiant. Remember how Moses glowed when he came down from the mountain of God? He spent significant time in the presence of God’s glory. God’s Presence and His Glory made Moses radiant. His countenance reflected the beauty of God’s Presence. He had to cover his head. During the month of Iyar, be looking for moments of the glory of God and the radiance of heaven to fall.
This month called Iyar is said to be a month of “connections.” We come closer and connect with Messiah by focusing on the ways of God. The connection of God’s Holy Spirit is preparing to come at Pentecost. This month is the time to be preparing to receive that connection. One way we prepare is by counting the Omer. This count is full of meditations that help us to get ready for God’s Glory to appear.
Iyar is also said to be a month in which healing takes place among God’s people. It is a great time to concentrate on asking God to send His healing to you and your loved ones. Iyar is a wonderful time to concentrate on praying for healing for the sick. God is listening.
VAV
The Hebraic alphabet for Iyar is “vav.” It represents the sixth letter. Six is the number of man. The letter itself looks like a nail with a little hook on the top. Of course we think of the nails of the cross. The cross connects us like the letter vav. It connects us to God and redemption. Hooks hold things together. They are connections. Imagine what life will be like when earth is permanently connected to Heaven during the millennial reign of Yeshua. In all of these examples we speak of the connection between God and mankind. This connection is provided at Pentecost when God’s Holy Spirit comes to reside inside of the followers of Yeshua. The Holy Spirit connects us to God.
LAPIS LAZULI
Iyar is represented by the jewel called Lapis Lazuli. It is a lovely blue stone. Go back to the book of Exodus and find the references to Lapis Lazuli. We wrote about it as we walked through that study. Here is one lesson which goes into detail: https://theinseasonlifestyle.com/god-marries-israel/.
I pray that your Iyar is full of God’s blessing, healing, connection and grace.
