This post is all about wishing you and yours a very happy Veteran’s Day.
May it be filled with good memories and happy stories of those that you loved who were willing to put their lives on the line for our freedom.
To all Veteran’s of every war – today our hats are off to you!
We will never forget your bravery and your valor.
Today we offer sincere thanks and gratitude for your service.
Somehow it just doesn’t seem enough to say “thank you” for all you have done; and though it still will not be enough (nothing ever would be) I wish to give you a poem that has become a part of my soul, something happy and uplifting that speaks of life and not death, and blessings instead of oppression. You have seen enough of those.
I want you to remember the wonder of the first glimpse in time of how important your mission was; and how amazing that some of those missions turned out.
I have heard many old soldiers speak of good memories they found among all of the bad. Those seem to be the ones they cherish and want to remember today.
Often when you are alone and away from home on a mission, a little unexpected moment will stick in your memory and God, creation and the whole universe will comfort you in an unspeakable language like you have not known before. This becomes a moment of delight in the midst of suffering.
I would guess that most Veterans can relate to a few such times as this; like a walk in the rain, a kiss on the beach, an unexpected trip home and the smiles that greeted you. You must remember the good moments too!
The miracle is the timing of them and how you come out of such moments prepared for those other more serious and somber times that happen whenever real and hard duty calls. It is those glimpses into the unknown wisdom hidden deep within these times of unexpected wonder that matures a person for whatever lies ahead and bids them to walk on in peace without doubting or looking back.
Perhaps you experienced some such happy moments during your service too. Let’s think of those happy little unexpected pauses today as we read this poem; for they were God looking after you!
So if you are one of the blessed Veterans who are still with us today to celebrate; here is a gift of a happy thought for the day. Only adventurers brave enough to be Veterans could relate to such a moment. Enjoy:
NIGHT FLIGHT
( written by Gail Landgraf)
We took a night flight through a pathway of stars,
where we heard the voice of God whisper to us
the secrets of the universe
within the language of the night sky.
We climbed up through the moonbeams
and observed the dance of lights
the winks and blinks and
sparkling crystal diamonds of the night.
We sailed around the celestial enchantment of the earth
as she was singing her night song.
All will be etched in perpetual, everlasting memory
of two voyagers gliding through space
floating through the warm silver air
from their ship in the sky.
