It’s soon going to be President’s Day!
How many stories can you tell concerning the Presidents of our nation?
Almost everyone knows the story of George Washington and The Cherry Tree. The real issue these days is whether or not the story is a myth or true. As the old story goes; George Washington had an ax that he liked to use and one day his father noticed that his cherry tree was chopped down. He asked George if he had done the deed and George answered; “I cannot tell a lie – I chopped down the cherry tree.”
That is why we always think of honesty when we recall our first President. He was known for his honesty and integrity; regardless of whether or not the story is true.
Also; if you are like me – instead of well-repeated old stories that could or could not be true; you might be thinking more about cherry pie! Because of the above story George Washington’s name has been associated with lots of cherry pie recipes and also some cake recipes using cherries as a main ingredient.
I just happen to have a favorite cherry pie dessert that I like to make in George Washington’s honor each year. It has been called Cherry Delight more than George Washington Cherry Pie; but if you make it today and tell everyone that it is in honor of the story of the former President; I’ll bet not one bite will be left over for tomorrow!
Enjoy; and don’t forget to be thankful for all of our past presidents!
