MOMENTUM

AN APPLE A DAY· GROW OLD WITH ME· Uncategorized

19 Jan

MOMENTUM – DOES IT REALLY MATTER?

Let’s establish one point right away; momentum matters at EVERY stage of life. It matters when you are young, middle-aged and older.

I’ll tell you a little secret though; depending on how much you allow it to matter as you grow older establishes a pattern of how young your mind, body and spirit become.

Do you realize how important it is for you to maintain momentum as you grow older?

I don’t mean the momentum toward growing older; I mean momentum as in “keep moving.”

IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP MOVING

Sir Isaac Newton once said “an object in motion tends to stay in motion.” That quote seems more important as we begin to age. Maybe it is because of how this theory seems to work. It pretty much states that if something gets in the way of your positive motion; you are going to either; slow down, fall over or quit moving.

That is exactly what a lot of people allow to happen as they begin to age. Things get in the way. Finances are tight. Energy is less. Arthritis and heart problems slow us down. Relationship problems sometimes develop; or we lose people closest to us.  Pandemics happen. Discouragement creeps into our days with all of its various problems bringing life’s little disappointments and we realize our own inability to control all of our circumstances. Instead of keeping our momentum up and continuing to move forward anyway; we give up and sit down until we die.

This isn’t God’s plan for us. Just ask Job. Talk about problems; he had a world full of them.

We must not let the problems of aging get to us; we need to keep moving forward.

This is never easy.

We sometimes want to sit still and enjoy our armchairs a little too much. After all, they are soft and comfortable and they don’t nag us or criticize us.

I’m sorry; that is not a good excuse. Today; AN APPLE A DAY and The IN SEASON Lifestyle blog have a good word for you – get up and get moving!

THE BENEFITS OF AEROBIC EXERCISE AS YOU AGE

Another quote that comes to mind when I think about movement is one by Sakyong Mipham, who said: “The body benefits from movement and the mind benefits from stillness.”

This saying is true; but you have to realize that your body and mind and spirit are all interconnected and the movement of your body is going to help you enjoy the stillness later when you have exercised and you are resting. That is the time to let your mind enjoy the stillness.

Move first – enjoy the stillness later. One comes after another.

This topic we are discussing today (momentum) actually makes me think in constant quotes. There are so many good quotes that describe the secrets that we need to digest about keeping movement in our lives. Since this is the case; I’ve decided to list and discuss ten of my favorites with you today.

Print them out if you like, and keep them handy whenever you need motivation to get up out of that chair and get moving.

I’ve had to re-read them myself this week; and some of them have been preaching VERY LOUD in my ear. Use them like fuel for your engine – let them get you started down the right path today.

10 BEST QUOTES ABOUT MOMENTUM

1. “Momentum solves 80% of your problems.” (John C. Maxwell)
2. “Keep moving ahead because action creates momentum, which in turn creates unanticipated opportunities.” (Nick Vujicic)
3. “For any movement to gain momentum; it must start with a small action.” (Adam Braun)
4. “What simple action could you take today to produce a new momentum towards success in your life?” (Tony Robbins)
5. “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl; but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” (Martin Luther King, Jr.)
6. “It doesn’t matter how slowly you go; as long as you do not stop.” (Confucius)
7. “When everything seems to be going against you; remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” (Henry Ford)
8. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.” (Winston Churchill)
9. “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)
10. “So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.” (Zechariah 4:6)

We could write a book around all of these great quotes; and who knows we might have one here before we finish.

Some of these deserve closer consideration and that is to come in a few later articles.  For now – we will scratch the surface of the beginning of a lot of motivation to get out there and get moving.

Whatever it takes; find it!

JUST APPLY THE SECOND LAW OF MOTION

By the way; have you heard of Newton’s second law of motion?

F = M A.

Yep; “force equals mass times acceleration.

Do I have to explain it?

Start moving!

Apply the pressure needed to move your body.

You can do it!
