Levi (son of Jacob/Israel) had a third son named Marari.
Marari’s descendants were part of the family of Levites that were being numbered for the counting of the people living in the times of the wilderness tabernacle. If you belonged to this family; you were a Mararite as well as a Levite.
Marari’s sons were Mushi and Mahli. Each of these sons had their own clan within the Mararite family, and they were all considered to be Levites. Their count (determined by those a month old or more) equaled 6,200.
The Marari Levites camped on the north side of the tabernacle. God appointed their leader to be Zuriel, Son of Abihail.
The Marari people had their own specific tasks to tend in relation to the tabernacle.
They broke down, transported and set up again the frames of the tabernacle, its crossbars, posts and bases and all equipment and everything related to their use.
This tribe also took care of the posts of the surrounding courtyard as well as their bases, tent pegs and ropes.
The things this tribe carried were less sacred than the things that the other two Levite tribes carried; (The Kohaths carrying the MOST sacred items) but they were no less important to the whole worship of the tabernacle.
Without the framing being upheld and secured and supported; there could be no tabernacle.
Therefore; what the Marari people did was very important indeed. The sacred tasks could not function without the less sacred chores taking place first.
In God’s Kingdom there is a place for everyone.
God has assigned a destiny to each person that He created.
Everyone has something to do that is important in relation to the whole structure of the living body of Christ that is being built up into the last and final temple of today. If you belong to Christ; you are a part of this building; no matter your function or assigned task; you are important and needed. The others cannot exist properly without you!
There have been so many lessons in this course from our Exodus and Leviticus studies that give the descriptions of these items that that Marari people were transporting. I will try to reference most of them here; just in case you wish to go back and review. When all is said and done; you can go back and look at the layout of the camps of these Levitical priests and you will see a physical pattern for a spiritual pattern that God would bring about with the giving of His Son for our Most Holy Sacrifice.
He, working along with God’s Holy Spirit that He made possible for us, is the glue that holds the body of the Church together.
The final results of all of these shadows and types can come to life later through the holy scriptures we read about in Ephesians 4:11-16;
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love we will in all things grow up into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Can you not see these New Testament works in this Old Testament pattern of the wilderness tabernacle?
God was painting a picture of how we are supposed to move and live and work and rest as the children of His Kingdom and as the Bride of His Son Jesus Christ Our Lord.
The whole tabernacle represented Christ, in all of His fullness, beauty, mercy and grace.
The Levitical priesthood moved and worked and existed as a physical example for how The Church (The Bride of Christ) is to live today. They were our physical example of how to live out spiritual things on this earth.
God often teaches the physical first; in order that we can better understand the spiritual.
At the head of all of these clans and tribes of Levites were the tents of Moses and Aaron and their families.
They camped to the east of the tabernacle toward the rising of the sun.
Moses and Arron and their families lived in front of the tent of meeting.
They were the highest authority in charge of the Sanctuary and anyone who approached it without permission was immediately struck dead.
These two men, chosen by God for their tasks are a physical picture of How God the Father and Jesus The Son are over the whole Church.
You can only approach them through the work of God’s Holy Spirit. If you choose never to do this; you will miss the whole tabernacle experience.
You might say, until you come into the truth of God and come to know His Son Jesus Christ; you are like the walking dead.
It takes Christ living in us to make us truly alive.
This only happens through the work of God’s Holy Spirit; and there is no other way to walk through the door to the Sanctuary.
Jesus is the door.
He is the way, the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Him.
Follow Him.
