EVERYTHING IS SO BEAUTIFUL
March 20th was the first day of Spring!
This year Spring came pouncing in like a very ferocious roaring lion. She brought winds so blustery that we all needed to hold on to our hats as we walked down the streets. Even a few people had to re-roof and rebuild from wind damage.
It really wasn’t necessary for this season to make such a loud but grand entrance!
A quiet tip-toe and a silent leaving of the first lovely blossoms of the fruit trees would have been much more lady-like. Still – she left a lovely trail behind her grand entrance, all full of flowers and green, green grass.
I love springtime; but don’t like how we have to include the tornadoes that sometimes come along with spring seasons in the south. I guess we sometimes have to endure a little rough weather in order to enjoy so much of Spring’s sheer beauty. The landscapes this year will take your breath away. The bright vivid colors and the pure, pure whites have been a feast for our eyes over the last month or so.
JUST LIKE A CLOUD OF GLORY
Windy or not; Spring has spread her glory everywhere. The trees are budding and the flowers are blooming; and YELLOW has blessed us in a million different ways.
Every year we try to take a walk out to Daffodil Hill at the beginning of springtime. We desire to time out our walk within the season that the daffodils are just beginning to peak their pretty yellow heads outside of the green shrubs they live among and they always wave cheerfully to us as we travel through their favorite resting places. One such place is Daffodil Hill; only a very short drive away from our home.
MEETING DAFFODIL HILL FOR THE FIRST TIME
Last year when our granddaughter was only four we took her with us on this annual traditional walk. She needed to learn our history with us and this place. It was her first trip. We told her the many stories about her Mama and Papa getting married on this pretty piece of property, and we walked with her around the lake. Her young mind could not figure out why she wasn’t at the wedding too!
I kept telling her she had not been born yet, that they had to get married before God could give her to them. She pondered that thought for a long time then said “Well, I REALLY would have liked to have been there! If it was in this place; it must have been a beautiful wedding.”
And so it was. It was fun walking down memory lane a bit with her as she sighed with dismay over missing the blessed event.
EXPLORING THE OLD HOMESTEAD
It was also fun checking out the beautiful scenery of this lovely old homestead, lake and museum. It had not changed one bit over the years. I was delighted to see that the same original charm and character had been very carefully preserved and maintained. I’m referring to a little place called Hargis; and it is located in Shelby County, Alabama.
Such a quaint and wonderful place to stroll through, whether in the spring; or any other season for that matter. Just be careful not to intrude upon any marriage ceremonies being performed. They do happen here, as well as other special events and occasions.
THE CHAPEL
We passed the pretty little Chapel but did not go inside. We wanted to visit; but there was another wedding being planned for and we decided it would be rude to intrude.
We strolled quietly on through the garden and crossed the bridge that led to the museum. I explained the bell-tower to my granddaughter; telling her that was where her Mama went up to throw her bouquet. I said “the person who catches the bouquet is supposed to be the next one married.” She squealed with delight at such a silly idea and laughed at the thought of ladies trying to catch her Mama’s bouquet. She walked up to the tower and looked down at us and waved.
As we strolled around the lake and watched the mallards swimming, we discovered some butterflies in the process of just being born. We looked across the lake and thought of how lovely the pretty yellow daffodils were from this viewpoint, as they perched on top of the hillside.
We noticed how we made shadows as we walked on the side of the lake. What we didn’t notice was a snake crawling not to far away. God protected us and we strolled on. Later when looking at the photos I saw the snake and nearly panicked thinking of how close we had been without realizing it!
We walked up the hill to the old homestead and showed our granddaughter one of our favorite picnic spots. She agreed it was lovely. She took a pretend carriage ride while we were there; and I think it was about that moment that both of our minds began plotting on how we could manage to display some of this pretty spring yellow in the colors of our own house.
Once we got back home, all inspired by the daffodils; we immediately set out to decorate The IN SEASON Lifestyle Family Tree standing in the kitchen window with some bright yellow spring flowers.
My granddaughter thought that flowers would be appropriate for this month; since we had seen so many pretty yellow flowers on the hillside that day. It was a hard decision though; between the flowers and the butterflies. We decided to save the butterfly thoughts for another month.
I’ve added many other yellow flowers all through the house; and the color yellow is now everywhere.
It is such a cheerful color!
LOVING ALL THE YELLOWS
I love how so much yellow just seems to warms up the place and it always seems to make people feel welcomed. All of this yellow surely keeps us smiling through all the days of spring.
We found that the yellow in lemons also added a special flair to our decor. We laughed a bit as we did this; because we thought of how our granddaughter could not say our grandson’s name when she said “Lennon” last year; and she always called him “Lemon.” It caught on; and he had a lemon cake for his first birthday party and now we all tend to fondly call him “our little lemon.”
So now the house is all bright and cheerful for our little Lemon’s next visit!
I hope it is soon.
The springtime weather makes me want to run outside to play with him and his big brother in the green grass of our front yard.
I would surely show them how the dogwoods are blooming. They are so pretty! We would wonder together at the amazing fact that these trees always know how to bloom just in time for Resurrection Day; no matter when the day lands on our calendars.
A PLACE PREPARED
We’ve cleaned and cleaned and decorated all fresh, and we are ready for Passover and The Seven Days of Unleavened Bread.
We are ready to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ on Early First Fruits!
All of those yellow daffodils bowing in the breeze reminded us that Resurrection is coming!
We found ourselves pondering just how things are resurrected to new life and freedom each year just as we come into the Spring.
It is going to be a lovely season!
MAY YOUR SPRING BE BLESSED!
