We love Purim here at The IN SEASON Lifestyle blog. What could seem more significant at this time? The lessons of Purim reveal so much to us.
It is almost time for Purim celebrations to begin!
PURIM IN MARCH 2025/ADAR 5785
For 2025 (Hebraic year of 5785); Purim in the United States starts on Thursday, March 13th (Adar 13) at sundown. The celebration lasts until Friday, March 14th (Adar 14) at sundown. If you are in Israel, Sushan Purim begins at sunset on March 15th (Adar 15.) Shushan Purim in Israel ends at sundown March 16th (Adar 16).
TIME TO PREPARE
Are you ready for your Purim celebration? Like Esther in the story, now is the proper time to begin our preparations.
What are your plans?
WHAT IS REQUIRED AND WHY?
Over the years we have published many articles about Purim. It is NOT a REQUIRED celebration, as it was declared by the people due to it’s historic significance. That simply means it was not given to us by God during the time He instituted His Holy Days. That happened during the time of Moses. The Annual Feasts and Festivals were given and long before the historic significance of Purim ever happened. There would have been no reason to give details to something that had not yet taken place; right?
So we call Purim a post-Mosaic holiday; not a holy day. This would make the day similar to how we celebrate Hanukkah; which also happened AFTER the days that God declared His Holy Days to Moses. Hanukkah is also a post-Mosaic celebration of a historic events concerning God’s faithful.
PURIM IS SIGNIFICANT TO CHRISTIANS AND JEWS
The fact that these two holidays happened after the time of Moses does not make them any less significant. Both celebrate amazing and God-given miracles. They are an important part of the history of mankind which has affected of all of our generations.
The most prominent part of this holiday begins with the reading of the story of Esther. This blog has its own telling of the story. Most years, at our family celebration, we read this one together. Lots of times we play a game with the names. As we call out the names of each character the people in the room have to respond to all the names in a certain way. We use groggers to keep people from hearing the terrible name of Haman. It should be drowned out from our ears. We stand and cheer when the name of Esther is called.
BEING CREATIVE WITH THE STORY
Those who respond right and first get points. The one with the most points at the end of the story wins a prize. My granddaughter LOVES this game. She wants to tell the story and play this game all year long.
Here is the story we use at our house:

THEOLOGICAL THOUGHTS

JUST PASSING TRUTH ON
We hope these articles help you to have the best celebration ever.
Coming back to the present days and our own times, let’s all remember that Purim is about doing what we need to do to defend our rights to exist as a people of God. That is a VERY important message for the time in which we are living today.
Enjoy the fun and games and the delicious treats; but always remember that Our Creator gave each person certain inalienable rights. You were born with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The first amendment to America’s Constitution takes this right further with these words: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
STANDING BEFORE KINGS
Esther certainly stood up before the King. She addressed the grievances of her people. In doing so she saved a nation who produced our Messiah. Where would we be today if this had not happened? It is certainly something to consider as we remember yet one more way that God delivered Israel.
If such provision was made for Israel; will God not do the same for America, or any other nation or people group longing for the rights of freedom of religion?
Enjoy your Christian Purim celebrations!
Let your petitions to God be known as you remember what true nobility is all about. Ask God to bring this trait back to our lands; just as He did for Israel in those olden times of trials and tribulations.
Happy Purim Everyone!
