INDEPENDENCE DAY THE BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA WAY
Just as I shared 2019 yesterday; today I wish to share some of the Independence Day celebrations we had here in the city of Birmingham, Alabama (or very near the city) back in 2018.
Again; I’m sharing the past so that you and I can more accurately compare the past with the future as we look at and celebrate the independence of our nation.
Are we losing our independence to “factors” that are simply sneaking up on us?
How many of these “factors” have been made by plotting people who want to change us from Americans with a republic to Americans who live in socialism?
Several socialistic leaders have noted that the next wars will not be fought with guns, but fought with cultural changes. Is this the case today?
How do you interpret it all when you look two years back and then come to the present and then think of the future?
Just curious.
Enjoy this walk down memory lane as I recall some of the ways we celebrated Independence Day in Birmingham, Alabama only a few years back:
IDEAS WE LOVED IN 2018:
Come join the Independence Day celebrations taking place in the area of Birmingham, Alabama. The South really knows how to throw a party; especially a meaningful party such as Independence Day.
Many will be traveling to their favorite summer retreats for this holiday. My family will be staying closer to home for our nation’s celebration this year, but we will be joining the hearts of all the people across the land.
Why would we want to travel when there is so much to see and do right here so close to home?
Great celebrations are happening all over the Birmingham area and many of them are right under our noses and practically in our own backyards.
YOUR OWN BACKYARD IS ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO HOLD A CELEBRATION
Speaking of your own backyard, I think that is a great way to celebrate. Pull out the rocking chairs and sit out on the front porch and maybe crank up the ice cream freezer. If your friends and neighbors decide to drop by; the more the merrier.
Parades are happening in all the home towns across the nation this weekend.
Music is pouring out from every doorway.
Grills are grilling and restaurants and breweries all over town are cooking and brewing up some Independence Day feasts.
Fireworks are in the plans for several large and small town locations all across the country.
THREE EVENTS TOP MY BUCKET LIST FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY 2018
As I thought of all that is happening this year, three events are right at the top of my bucket list. Here is a brief summary of these favorite happenings that are coming down close to where we live, in the greater Birmingham area of Alabama.
MORGAN CREEK WINERY, 181 Morgan Creek Lane, Harpersville, Alabama 35078
Morgan Creek Vineyards are located just outside of Birmingham. If you don’t mind a pleasant little drive from the city to the country you can be there in no time.
This year the winery is having Music in the Vineyards. It all could make for a lovely and enchanting experience.
The grounds are breathtakingly beautiful and the winery is open for some interesting tours. Wine tasting will be among the most popular of the events.
The fun starts at 5 p.m. and there will be live music beginning at 6 p.m. You may rent a table (205-672-2053) or you may bring your own lawn chair and/or a blanket. The cost per person to attend is $15.
The fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. It should be a very beautiful evening!
THUNDER ON THE MOUNTAIN, Fireworks Show launched from Vulcan Park, in Birmingham, Alabama
You cannot attend the show at Vulcan Park, so please don’t get that part confused. This Birmingham tradition that lights the skies of Birmingham’s Southside every year is STAGED from the fireworks placed in Vulcan Park. For safety’s sake the park gates close at 6 p.m. and no one is allowed to enter after that time.
You must find a favorite spot around town from which to view the fireworks. Anywhere that you have a good view of the Vulcan will give you a good view of the fireworks.
Many people watch the show from different areas and favorite perches in Five Points South, Homewood, Vestavia and Mountain Brook. UAB also has a few good spots from which to watch the fireworks.
Where ever you decide to view from; just get there and get comfortable early. Traffic will be heavy and it is better to be in place long before the event begins.
This year’s extravaganza promises to be spectacular with about 20 minutes worth of colors and lights in the sky with patterns choreographed to a musical soundtrack that will feature a mix of patriotic favorites and popular musical performances.
How convenient for us that our daughter lives in a good viewing spot! We will gather on her patio as a family sharing the food that we all bring and just chill and relax with a cold drink while we watch the fireworks show.
Can’t think of a better way to celebrate our independence!
THE AMERICAN VILLAGE: 3727 Highway 119, Montevallo, Alabama 35115 205-665-3535
Again, for just a short little drive through a few country roads just outside of Birmingham you can be at The American Village to celebrate July 4th and Independence Day. I can’t think of a better place to learn the history of our great nation, or to celebrate the future of America.
This is a wonderful, hands-on way to teach your children the history of our country and to show them (literally) how we gained our independence.
Gates open at 11 a.m and there will be shows, exhibits, re-enactments and entertainment for all ages all day long. You can have your photo taken with some of the characters who are dressed in the proper clothing and acting out a day way back in the founding days of America.
Meet the characters and hear their stories. If you think you know it all and have heard all the stories; you might be surprised to be learning new facts here.
Tour the very authentic colonial village and experience a day of the colonial life.
The day ends at the main stage near the town hall where you will hear inspiring speeches, patriotic music and the grande finale will be a beautiful burst of fireworks that will last well into the night.
You will leave proud to be an American! Veterans and active military are admitted for free; as well as children under 4. The cost for all others is only $5.
I sincerely hope you and yours take in something fun and interesting to commemorate the Independence of America this year. Our young people need to know their heritage.
