SUMMER OF 2026
Oh my goodness, is there anything more fun than gathering your grandchildren around and spending time together? We try to do so here every summer. Summer of 2026 was no exception.

SPENDING LAZY TIME TOGETHER
This year was a little different for us, in that we had to make our time a long weekend instead of a whole week. I usually have a plan full of activities, but that didn’t happen this year. It didn’t matter, if you don’t have a plan the kids will give you one. They thought of a million things to do on their own.

The summers are too short now and between surgeries for Pop, moving my Mom into a new home, and recovering from a broken ankle and a shoulder injury for me, we had to cut our time way down. The dates kept changing, so it became impossible to plan. Before we knew it, it was almost time to go back to school. Too many people had too much already scheduled. Also, our oldest grand was busy working hard at his summer job. On top of all that – it rained every day we had together.
You know what?
None of that mattered.

How do little boys always manage to make an ugly face the very moment you snap their photo? We have one who is a master at this. Every now and then I get a normal pose from him with his angelic smile. I love when that happens.
This bunch is easy to please. We love just sitting around and talking, eating, playing games and watching movies. That was basically the extent of what we did this summer. It was all about hearing and catching up on whatever everyone had been doing all summer when they were away from us. We heard some great stories. I can’t believe how much these kids are growing up! The talk was all about school, friends, sports and hobbies. There was never a dull moment.

At first I was a little worried they might get bored with the fact that we weren’t traveling somewhere exciting this time. Everyone loves the farm we usually like to go to, but it just wasn’t in the stars this time. They were stuck at Pop and Gma’s house for several days, but I didn’t hear one complaint.
As a matter of fact, everyone seemed quite content. We were all together and we had all that we needed to be happy. The parents did manage to take the kids to the climbing gym for several hours. They enjoyed spending their energy that way. They also managed to squeeze a trip to Aunt E and Uncle A’s house for dinner one night. Uncle Clay and Aunt Christin invited them to sleep over one night too. The plan I didn’t have worked out just right. It was all thanks to the fact that we are a large family that simply loves spending time with one another. This turned out to be the year that simpler was better. It was a great visit.

So, this summer goes down in the record books as just a nice, lazy visit, which was long overdue. I’m glad we slowed down and just enjoyed one another’s company instead of rushing here and there. Next year we may head to the beach or the mountains, but we have a whole year to think about that. It was nice just being a family together.
Feeling blessed to have such amazing grandchildren!
Can’t believe summer is about to be over.
