TRUMPETS IN ABIGAIL AND DAVID’S STORY
Astute bible students see the patterns of The Feast of Trumpets in Abigail and David’s story. 1 Samuel has many passages which are symbolic of The Feast of Trumpets. Do you know that the Feast of Trumpets story is revealed in the story of Abigail and David?
As I write, we are inside of the week of The Feast of Trumpets. The feast is also called Yom Teruah. We are studying how the secretly anointed King, David, sent for his future bride, Abigail. Everything about Abigail’s marriage to David is symbolic of the marriage of The True Church to Yeshua. This will happen at His Second Coming.
The Feast of Trumpets points believers to the return of Christ. He is coming for His Bride, The True Church. Many call this The Second Coming. Others call it The Rapture. Notice the patterns of the story in 1 Samuel. See how they all match for each time period. We see a match of the physical things of the past. Also we see a match of the spiritual and future events of God’s calendar.
THE PHYSICAL
In our story, Nabal died in his own folly. Thus, Abigail became a widow. She inherited a large estate. This is symbolic of the chaining of Satan and His demons. It will take place when Yeshua returns for his people. Satan will be restrained in the bottomless pit. God’s people will inherit a life in the millennial Kingdom of God. They will reign with King Yeshua for 1,000 years.
I’m sure Abigail was busy when David’s men returned to see her. When they arrived, she was probably going about all of her daily tasks. David’s men approached unexpectedly. As requested, they delivered David’s marriage proposal to Abigail.
THE WONDER OF A PREPARED BRIDE
Because Abigail lived and walked in The Holy Spirit, she was instantly ready. She was prepared at all times for anything God requested of her. Thus, Abigail had the discernment to know what to do when this happened. Her only reply was to accept God’s will and walk within in. This is the destiny and purpose of her life. This discerning nature had been developed and fine-tuned long before she married David.
So, when David sent his men to request Abigail’s hand in marriage, she followed God’s Holy Spirit. Without questioning, she packed her donkey. Right away she began the journey to meet the future King. Five of her maids had learned from Abigail. They too were filled with God’s Holy Spirit. This meant they were ready and waiting to perform anything Abigail wished for them to do. Abigail invited these five wise maidens to come with her.
RIDING A DONKEY
The fact that Abigail rode a donkey meant that she came in peace. She had many animals from the herds of Nabal. Abigail could have chosen to ride a fine horse. She came riding on a donkey. Perhaps David was watching from a distance to see the caravan of his men returning with his bride. He would instantly know she was willing for this marriage to take place because she was riding on a donkey.
FIVE READY MAIDENS
The five maids are very significant. There were many more servants in Abigail’s household. Yet, these five were ready. The others were not ready for such a journey. They would not be suitable for a Kingdom lifestyle. The five she took with her were faithful, loyal and true. They stood at her side through many trials. They learned to love and worship The Father because of Abigail.
So these were the chosen maids Abigail wanted waiting with her for the groom. They were who she desired as attendants for her wedding date. The other servants would not even be invited to the wedding. Only the faithful and loyal servants would be given the invitation to come and live with her inside the Kingdom of the Groom.
THE SPIRITUAL STORY
This made me think of the scriptures found in Matthew 25: 1-13 which speak symbolically of Yeshua returning for His bride. We all know this passage as The Parable of The Ten Virgins:
MATTHEW 25:1-13
THE TEN VIRGINS
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
OIL FOR THE LAMPS
“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
KEEP WATCH
“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ “Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
TWO MESSAGES
We, like the people in our story, have two messages to decipher. One is physical and one is spiritual. In the physical message, Christ WILL return. Are we ready? Are we physically as well as spiritually celebrating His Feast Days and waiting for His return. Will He find us prepared and ready to go? The spiritual message is also about preparation. Have we repented of our sins, and turned toward God’s ways? Are we spiritually ready for His coming again? Do we have the oil of God’s Holy Spirit burning inside of us?
Like David returned for Abigail, Jesus will return for The True Church. What a day that will be! The Feast of Trumpets, which just preceded this lesson, is all about being ready. The Ten Days of Awe, which begin on the Feast of Trumpets and end on The Day of Atonement, are the final moments of this spiritual year. Are we prepared? Let’s be sure to be ready.
PRAYER
My prayer for you today is that you and all of your household are ready. I pray you are looking forward to the glorious return of Our King. Behold, He is coming again.
