In our last lesson God stressed through Moses to Israel that people who brought bitter poison to the nation of Israel through false worship of idols would never be blessed.
God mentions what will happen to these disobedient people if they dabble in such wrong practices and then try to put themselves under the blessings that belong to the obedient.
It is not good!
GOD IS NOT DECEIVED
Here is the scripture that applies to those who decide they might get away with such un-confessed or sinful practices:
Deuteronomy 29: 19-29: When such a person hears the words of this oath and they invoke a blessing on themselves, thinking, “I will be safe, even though I persist in going my own way, “they will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry.
The LORD will never be willing to forgive them; his wrath and zeal will burn against them. All the curses written in this book will fall on them, and the LORD will blot out their names from under heaven.
The LORD will single them out from all the tribes of Israel for disaster, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Law.
Your children who follow you in later generations and foreigners who come from distant lands will see the calamities that have fallen on the land and the diseases with which the LORD has afflicted it.
GOD’S JUDGEMENT
The whole land will be a burning waste of salt and sulfur – nothing planted, nothing sprouting, no vegetation growing on it. It will be like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, which the LORD overthrew in fierce anger.
All the nations will ask: “Why has the LORD done this to this land?
Why this fierce, burning anger?”
And the answer will be: “It is because this people abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their ancestors, the covenant he made with them when he brought them out of Egypt.
They went off and worshipped other gods and bowed down to them, gods they did not know, gods he had not given them.
Therefore, the LORD’s anger burned against this land, so that he brought on it all the curses written in this book. In furious anger and in great wrath the LORD uprooted them from their land and thrust them into another land, as it is now.
The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO US TODAY?
Sounds pretty plain to me!
The lost ten tribes of Israel are positive proof that this punishment has prevailed.
I would not want to be on the receiving end of this anger today.
Israel has experienced it many times; and so have other nations.
When God’s wrath happened to Israel; the LORD uprooted them from their homeland and let them be taken away captive to another country.
Will America let their disobedience to the ways of God led them to be captives of foreign countries too?
DISRESPECT FOR OUR FOUNDERS
We have not been obedient to the God of our ancestors. They were very careful to write out our laws and to compose a national constitution in ways that would follow God’s laws.
Many natives of the land now want to twist and turn those words so that they can apply to ANY god. They hope to make the words conform to their own plans for mankind; not God’s plan.
The One True God will not stand for it.
Already we have let our laws and ways of living become captive to ungodly laws that have trickled down from ungodly nations. Laws that our God would never approve of have been rewritten and put down inside our books.
Will God become angry with us too?
Are we the new Sodom and Gomorrah?
TIME TO PAY ATTENTION
Look around you.
What do your eyes see?
Listen to the voices of the country.
What do you hear?
How many are praising God and teaching their children to do the same?
Do any of the people you see follow God’s laws; or are they busy changing all of the godly laws that our ancestors put down in the books to fit their on unique lifestyles?
WHAT WILL BE NEXT?
Where do we go from here?
We will all have to answer for our own actions, that is a sure fact.
There are secret things going on that only God can comprehend right now. We may escape some things because of our lack of complete knowledge; but not the things that involve God’s law as it was given to Moses.
Torah is something that we know.
God wrote it down with His own finger and had it put into readable form for us and all of the generations of the past. Amazing miracles have preserved the Word of The Law.
It is still with us today.
These laws will bring us curses or blessings forever; according to how we and our children after us follow them.
What will you choose?
