THOUGHTS FOR PURIM 2026
Purim is one of those post-Mosaic holidays. It is neither a feast day or a fast day. Rather, Purim is a day of memorial and a time for celebrating a great victory from God. People celebrate this day because they know and trust the God who brought forth the miracles the Purim story represents. Soon we will be walking through Purim 2026.
This year mature Christians are seeing how the prophetic significance of Purim 2026 is playing out into present day events. Strange, yet familiar, things are visible on the stage of the world. For Purim 2026 prophecy is coming true all over again. A moment in time seems to be repeating itself. The sequel to the story is now in production. All the world should be watching.
This should be no surprise. From the beginning God proclaimed these things. He is never wrong. God never changes His mind. To understand what I’ve already said, you have to understand the holiday called Purim. It isn’t only for the Jews. Purim has a message for everyone.
SIGNIFICANCE THEN AND NOW
Lately, I’ve been writing a book about the deep significance of Purim. These thoughts are fresh on my mind. I’m writing this book because I believe in appointed times. Also, I sincerely believe Purim has great prophetic significance for the days we are living through right now.
Each year as Purim approaches I see the patterns and rhythms of time repeating themselves. They come as reflections of current world events mirroring past history. This year the phenomenon seems to be much more powerful. Deep inside my spirit I can hear the voices of prophecy shouting louder than usual. Purim isn’t just another ancient story. It is an on-going spiritual battle.
As I think of Purim, the story remains fresh and full inside my heart. It’s lesson guides me. You can read our version of the story here: THE STORY OF ESTHER AND THE KING. The ancient Purim story assures us of the fact that God is still completely in control of the universe. This is very comforting to one living inside the ever-changing fast-paced events of 2026.
HOW TO CELEBRATE in 2026?
My first inclination every Purim is to invite many people to a huge celebration. These are always so much fun. I imagine a celebration with creative refreshments and grand games. There are so many unique ways to tell this fascinating story. My vision incudes many forms of carefully planned entertainment followed by cute party favors that deliver a message.
Those are my first thoughts. However, I’m looking at my budget. I’m thinking of the busy schedules of the people I want to invite. Plus, my energy levels are lower right now due to one million other reasons. None of these things match my first inclinations. Silently I ponder this fact. I’m realizing there is more than the normal things of life changing my approach. I think it is a spiritual inclination telling me to be still and wait.
Laughing, I realize these activities may not be God’s expectations of me at all. Every year is different. Maybe this year isn’t the loud, joyful celebration I usually decide to have. Perhaps this year’s joy and celebration is a quieter, more meditative type of celebration. Maybe there is a reason that I’m feeling this way. Perhaps it has to do with the current events in our culture at the moment.
EACH YEAR IS UNIQUE
Every new season I learn there are so many different ways of celebrating significant biblical events. Each way seems to fit its own season. Some seasons are different from others. There are loud seasons and quiet seasons, crowded seasons and seasons with only a few. Most of my Purim seasons have been loud and crowded. This year I’m drawn to more of the quiet, reflective, softer version of celebrating. It is still a great celebration, just with a different flair.
I think perhaps God is calling me to a deeper and more reflective Purim this year. Why? Because the season seems more urgent. In this style of celebration I will give myself more time to reflect and pray about the message of Purim. This year I will take more time to consider how it relates to the current events of the world.
This year Purim’s message seems to be preparation for Passover. It feels as if God is preparing us for something in the very near future.
SHARING AND REFLECTING
I love the biblical principle clarifying that Purim celebrations can be as formal or as informal as we want. It seems I’m hearing God say, “just share the story with those who you love and reflect on its meaning.” That seems to be what works for us this year.
It is always important to tell the story. That historical event was such a great and important day. It was an amazing miracle for the people of God. Purim became a great miracle for all people, not just the Jews. We should always share Purim with one another. It speaks of God’s mercy, blessing, salvation, redemption and joy. So, please do not misunderstand what I’m saying here. I’m simply implying that for me, this year’s Purim celebration will be a tiny bit quieter and a lot more reflective in nature.
TIME SNEAKS UP ON US
Sometimes the date for Purim arrives and it is almost impossible to plan a big, formal party or celebration. Often the date happens in the unexpected turning of one civil month to another. So some years allow Purim to sneak up on us. We’ve been deep into our winter naps and are caught off guard.
Purim isn’t the only example of this. In the fast-paced society of today, everything seems to come too fast and furious. Maybe that contributes to the message of my heart this year which is screaming “slow down” and “be quieter.” Savor this calm before the storm.
Quieter doesn’t mean not sharing the story. The message is just too important to skip or overlook. This year it feels more urgent than ever. The story must be shared but this year the volume is quieter and it speaks in softer tones that fall gently upon our ears. Perhaps that makes it easier to receive all of the story. Sometimes quiet messages speak more than a scream.
SIMPLICITY WITH ALL OF THE NEEDED ELEMENTS
On years like this one, I cut down on the details. I casually gather a few loved ones for the occasion. We enjoy a very simple time at home to reflect and remember the story of Esther. The details are all contained in the telling of the story. When this is how our Purim plays out, I promise myself to have the more festive gathering next year. I love them both. In the simpler celebrations we still feel the joy of the victories God brings to us. This quieter joy doesn’t jump out at you. It builds up deep inside then works its way to the surface. When it does arrive, it is more solid, more substantial, more lasting. You don’t have to speak the words. They shine out from your faces.
This year I’m telling myself and sharing with others how the ways this story’s message suddenly feel heavier. They seem to be more prophetic for our current times. Perhaps the familiar story may be more solemn than fun this year. We will all be considering the serious weight of what is going on in the world. It isn’t all easy to swallow.
THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS
That is to say that this year’s celebration feels very prophetic in nature. It’s relevance and significance to current times seems closer than in times of the past. Maybe I am just older and more aware. I find myself thinking of ways to keep the young from perceiving this time as terrifying in nature. My desire is to reassure them of God’s love. Like in the story of Esther we may have some huge struggles and obstacles to overcome before the victory dance. I sense the emphasis should be on trust, perseverance and deliverance. The words “miracle from God” can not be over-used this year.
In the current times we seem to be in the middle of the story. We must stay focused on the end of the story. Perhaps this is one reason this year feels so serious instead of festive. Simplicity helps us to stay focused on the main point. Emphasis will stay on the fact that God will always deliver His people, even when it looks impossible.
DEFEATING HAMAN
It doesn’t matter if we are elaborate or simple. Either style will work with our Purim celebration. God simply wants us to practice the message of Purim. This is our great big pause for hope. He desires we choose to live out this message within a world full of chaos. God is pleased when we participate in defeating the generational hate of Haman. This time must reach its fulfillment and come to a completion. Our declaration of hope and trust in God at Purim brings us closer to this realization.
This year, I’m feeling like simple and relaxed is going to be more effective for my people. I’m convinced the hope of the Purim story will shine through. It is my desire for all who leave our celebration to continuously be reminded of God’s perfect love for them. Also, I hope they are doubly assured our love for one another overcomes any obstacles of the world. Esther and Mordecai were a team. Families must work together to bring God’s love into a loveless world.
A MORE CASUAL TIME-OUT TO REMEMBER
So, the plan for this year is set. I’m going to invite a few loved ones over to celebrate with a very casual dinner. We will enjoy some tasty yet easy-to-fix finger-foods. These foods will be very simple and uncomplicated but delicious and festive. Hopefully, at least my local grandchild can attend. For the main event, I want to share a movie night/time-out. The movie will focus on the Purim story.
Anyone who choses can celebrate by dressing up in costume. Perhaps a costumed group of people will present a colorful new memory as we gather to watch the movie.
Before the movie, I want some of us to make a batch of hamantaschen cookies. It will be fun to make them together. I’ve found a new recipe I love. I’ll try to post it in our MONDAY NIGHT MENUS topics soon. We can enjoy the hamantaschen cookies fresh from the oven. They will be good as we watch the movie called One Night With The King. https://amzn.to/46iH9s4.
We will have a lot of fun together. The story will be remembered. I think that is VERY important this year. It doesn’t matter how the story is presented. What really matters is the fact that we are making everyone aware of God’s great reversal for His faithful people.
LESS EMPHASIS ON THE HEAVINESS
A movie is something a thirteen year old can enjoy. Perhaps watching a movie will not feel too weighed down by the truth which is revealed. Hate is still lurking out there in this less-than-perfect world. However, there is another side to that equation. After all, there is a happy ending to this story despite the struggles all go through to get there.
Sometimes I think the weight of the world rests too heavy on the shoulders of the upcoming generations. As serious world events unfold I wish to tread lightly for them. Too much pressure can lead to unnecessary depression. These younger ones are the hope of our nation. We must bring balance into their lives in a culture that doesn’t understand the meaning of balance. The younger ones need the facts. They should be taught the stories. However, the facts should be presented in a way that increases their hope. We want these memorial stories to grow their faith in God.
Again simplicity helps. I don’t want too much heaviness to come across and this celebration appear depressing. It is not our desire to bring any form of fear to the table. Purim is a celebration. It should feel that way when it is over. The victory in knowing and trusting Our Great God should end with a time of happiness.
The local news does enough of giving everyone the heavy details. I tend to shy away from talking to young children about prophetic thoughts during Purim. Such thoughts are only being discussed with adults this week. Those subjects which are very mature in nature need to be falling on spiritually mature ears. This year there are many thoughts to ponder.
A MATURE VIEW OF PROPHECY AND PURIM
From the tone of this article you may have noted how my thoughts on Purim 2026 are not as typical. They are timely for the times in which we are living. It is hard to celebrate anything when war is looming in the background. In reality our world has reached a very critical moment of history. I’ve been watching and following the news and the events happening in Iran. The true prophets I always trust have been speaking. All the signs of the current season seem to align perfectly with this ancient story of Purim.
Studious bible studies take us quickly to Jeremiah Chapter 49. This chapter of Jeremiah speaks of end-times. I believe we are right there. This is a heavy moment in my spirit as we approach this year’s Purim celebrations.
STRAIGHT FROM JEREMIAH
Jeremiah 49:34 says, This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, early in the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah: This is what the LORD Almighty says: “See, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might.
I will bring against Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven; I will scatter them to the four winds, and there will not be a nation where Elam’s exiles do not go. I will shatter Elam before their foes, before those who want to kill them; I will bring disaster on them, even my fierce anger,” declares the LORD.
“I will pursue them with the sword until I have made an end of them. I will set my throne in Elam and destroy her king and officials,” declares the LORD. “Yet I will restore the fortunes of Elam in days to come,” declares the LORD.
Most people realize this passage which speaks of Elam is speaking of present-day Iran. God says He will break their bow. The word “bow” most likely refers to military and governmental powers. They will not be able to defend themselves from their enemies. The enemies of Iran today are America, Israel and Arabia. Could this ancient prophecy be referring to Iran and these countries? All do seem to be preparing for war. I pray we are spiritually prepared and physically prepared.
HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF
Part of this prophecy has already been fulfilled. The country of Iran was scattered to the four winds back in 1979. That was when a huge regime change took place and the present regime came into power. Most who fled Iran came to the United States. Some also went into Britain and Africa and other countries. They dispersed into any countries that did not fall under the control of Islam.
In the passage above God says He will shatter Iran before its enemies. This could possibly mean God will make an end to Islamic rule as we know it today. That would agree with the statement of the Purim story which says “I will wipe out the name of Haman.”
SPIRITUAL THRONES
Next, God says He will set a throne in Islam which will destroy their king and officials. This is thought by most prophetic predictors to be a type of spiritual throne. It seems to speak of a throne for heavenly beings called principalities who rule over nations.
An alternative explanation also exists. It says whoever comes to rule Iran after the present powers are destroyed will be a godly man. He will bring about God’s will for the country.
We all know the millennial throne of Yeshua is coming to Jerusalem. This throne over Iran is not the same thing. Don’t get the two confused. Many think this Iranian throne speaks of the principalities of the heavens. Scriptures speak of angelic beings whom God established to rule over the nations from the time of creation. Those thrones are invisible to the physical eye. However, we always feel the power of their spiritual rule. They contend with God’s enemies for their territories. It is possible that both this spiritual principality as well as a physical human ruler may change.
GREAT REVERSALS IN PROPHECY
Given these scriptures, it seems very likely the ruling spiritual principalities over Elam/Iran will change. Our interpreters say these principalities will be defeated. New rulers will move into that spiritual realm. The new spiritual ruler will promote and assure The Kingdom of Heaven. Presently, God is shaking the heavens. He is bringing these things into the positions He desires. Finally, Islamic people will have the opportunity to know Yeshua as Messiah. This passage sounds as if God will restore the fortunes of the innocent people forced to flea the country. He will restore them and restore their families. That is a Purim message if I ever heard one.
It is hoped all people will begin to follow Yeshua and become united with the Body of Christ. Iran will experience a complete reversal as a result of these prophecies being fulfilled in the later days.
THE END SAYS ALL
The interpretations I present here are from mere humans. Therefore, we should pray that the interpretations we know are accurate and correct. So much depends on the faithful being obedient to the commands of God. Like in the days of Esther and Mordecai, all of the faithful must rise up. The Purim story will be repeated again.
It seems that the innocent of Iran will be saved. This is yet another reason for joy. Eventually the people will be changed and restored. The country will turn into a completely different place.
This is the story of Purim all over again. Only it is also a prophecy. Most believe this prophecy is meant for our current times. This seems to be the message of this season for this year. The timing for such a revelation is perfect. This prophecy is good news for believers who are worried and consumed with the happenings of the times. I’ll be quick to say, just trust God. Pray. Fast. Be obedient to what God shows you. Then go ahead and celebrate His great reversals.
A TIME-SENSITIVE YEAR
So, this year I plan to make our Purim celebration silly, fun and casual. However the real world isn’t giving us silly, fun or casual vibes. This year feels very time-sensitive indeed. I am reminded of the meaning behind God’s appointed times. They were set from the foundations of the earth and they cannot be changed. The appointed times were established to bring about God’s plan for the restoration of mankind. Everything will follow the course God laid in place until the times are complete. All decreed from the beginning is exactly what will happen.
The King trusted and signed a decree against the Jewish people in the story of Esther. He could not reverse what had been sealed. However, he did sign a new decree. This decree allowed the people to defend themselves. It gave them victory when the set time arrived.
When there is no way; God will make a way. Trust Him. Our main defense has always been that Yeshua died in our place. He has ransomed us. Jesus came to our rescue just as surely as Esther came to the rescue of her people. Each time God gave us victory over the enemy. This is a Purim story too.
THE HIDDEN AND UNSEEN
There is a serious awareness in the air. Christians everywhere have a sense of something about to happen which is hidden or unseen. Signs in the heavens speak of how all the planets will come into complete alignment during this month. I believe this is the hand of God. He is gently guiding us and leading us. God is helping His people to be able to achieve victory over their enemies. He is putting things in place. We are being prepared. Through Purim we are waking up and being prepared for Passover. There will be even greater miracles to come.
PRAY FOR PEACE
Just as in the days of Esther, it seems more important than ever to emphasize how God is in control. Like Esther, we must remember to fast and pray. We must go before the King with our requests for our people.
In this year of 2026, Purim seems to be a reminder as much as an important memorial. It is reminding us our faith in God coupled with the redemption of Yeshua will eventually bring forth God’s peace.
PRAYER: Father, we pray for the people in Iran. Please help the innocent who are being abused and mistreated by evil leaders. We ask that you protect them. Also, we pray You give strength and protection to those whom You call to come to their rescue. Protect all of your people across the globe. Defend our military and guide our leaders. Guide us as we walk out the prophetic events You set into motion from the time of creation. You are our God. We trust You for protection, provision and restoration of the earth. Amen.
Thank you Gail! This (Thoughts for Purim 2026) is such an encouraging read to start this Sunday morning. Your statement resonates with me 100%: “Like in the story of Esther we may have some huge struggles and obstacles to overcome before the victory dance. I sense the emphasis should be on trust, perseverance and deliverance. The words “miracle from God” can not be over-used this year.” We will see miracles like never before!
Thank you for your comment Sandi. I value your opinion and am happy to know we agree on this subject. These facts were encouraging to my heart as I wrote the article. I hope they are helpful to all that read it.
