PASSOVER – THE EXODUS TO FREEDOM
Have you read EXODUS TO FREEDOM yet? I love to revisit the pages of this book I wrote. Not because I wrote it, but because the writing is about what God wrote. Because, well, it is all about Passover – The EXODUS TO FREEDOM.
This book is a great read for any time of the year. However, my favorite time to review is the time leading into the season of Passover. The words of this publication help to bring the meaning behind the whole season of Passover closer to home. The passages from Exodus to Freedom remind me of things I never want to forget.
For instance, here is a quote from a paragraph of page 238 of the book:
“Eventually the Egyptians began to notice they were affected by the plagues, but the people of Israel were not. Suddenly they gained a much deeper respect for the Israelites. It came from the fact that their God had protected them.”
GOD PROTECTS AND PROVIDES FOR HIS OWN
Isn’t it wonderful to be a member of God’s family? Even if only a spiritual Israelite, one who has been grafted into Israel or adopted? Also, isn’t it wonderful how God treats all of His children the same, whether born directly within the family or grafted-in or adopted?
One assurance of a child of God is that of His great protection. In the time in which we are living, this provides a deep sense of comfort.
I can read the paragraph noted above from EXODUS TO FREEDOM and remember, “Wow, God is going to protect His people, even in times of severe circumstances and horrible troubles.”
THOUGHTS FOR CURRENT TIMES
Right now, as I ponder these thoughts and comforting words from the publication, America is deep into a war. The reading of these words comfort me greatly. Reading about the exodus gives me courage in times of war. EXODUS TO FREEDOM breaks down all the scenes from which I want to draw strength and courage.
Now is the time for all Christians to be as brave as those ancients who lived in the wilderness for 40 years. If we have faith, God will strengthen us. He will show us how to live and flourish, even in hard times and dry, barren places. The Good Shepherd will always guide us through places which appear to be frightening from a human point of view.
A few paragraphs later the book reads: “A high and holy fear of The One Great God is a wonderful thing. Israel was seeing how this affected them just before they were released for the ancient exodus.”
HOW PURIM PREPARED FOR PASSOVER
This holy fear of The One Great God provoked the Egyptians to give the Israelites all of their valuables in order to bribe them to leave the land. By now they completely understood that Pharoah keeping the Israelites from leaving was causing the Egyptians great troubles.
We all know what happened next. The plague of the first-born sons. If one had the blood of a Lamb on their doorpost, they were passed-over.
Every Purim we speak of the importance of God’s great reversals. Passover became one huge “great reversal” for the records. The Pharaoh who had proclaimed death to Moses would now experience death to his own son.
The whole nation of Egypt would be affected – except for the Israelites. They had the blood of the lamb over their doorposts. They did not know why. At that time in history, no one understood exactly what was happening. The Israelites were simply obedient to the word of God through Moses. These faithful Israelites obeyed blindly, and it saved them. Are we capable of such blind obedience to God today? I wonder.
TAKING A SPIRITUAL EXODUS
Today all of God’s people are invited to take a spiritual exodus out of the world. The words of EXODUS TO FREEDOM speak of this fact. God invites us to follow Him. We can do this blindly and with great faith because we trust Our Father. The One who was careful to deliver the Israelites from slavery will also deliver us from the bondages the world tries to hold over us. There is one requirement – faith carried out with blind obedience.
Now the timeline for God’s people on this earth is moving forward. A time is coming that will be full of false information and deceptions. It may look like peace and safety. We might seem to be walking into a golden age. Be careful. At first the Israelites thought Egypt held the answers to their famine. As for us today, Jesus warned us of this trap called “deception.” Stay true, be obedient, follow Torah with all of your heart. Know and believe that God rescues those who put their trust in Him.
