On Omer Count – Day 32 we consider that netzach of hod means endurance of humility. Why would we deliberately choose to endure a time of humility?
Actually; this happens a lot. We just don’t notice it because it is a pretty basic and natural process of our daily living.
DON’T GATHER MORE THAN YOU NEED
One example would be when the Israelites were wandering through the wilderness and the manna fell in the desert during the normal work days of the week. The people were instructed not to gather more than they needed and to consume it all in that same day. They were not to hold on to it.
It is a humbling experience to be in the desert without food and to know that there is extra; but you can only have and keep one day’s worth.
What you need for the day is all that you should pick up. There was no way to store up any extra and have that security of knowing that tomorrow you would have plenty; because if you did this – the next day you would have horrible maggots and decay instead.
OMER COUNT – DAY 32 MEANS COMPLETE SURRENDER
Living in the desert, trusting for your food from God one day into the next, and following the cloud and the pillar of fire without even knowing your destination, required complete surrender to God’s will.
This had to happen day-after-day-after-day. Daily routines are where most of our endurance becomes necessary. Those Israelites were required to trust God and to live in humble endurance until He showed them the next thing.
We must learn to do the same.
WAITING PATIENTLY ON GOD’S PLAN
Sometimes our destiny takes a turn. We must learn how to move in new and unfamiliar situations. Whenever this happens, we learn that holding on to the past is futile. God doesn’t always keep us in the same place. When a plan changes we must be flexible and respond with humble endurance.
Jesus called us to be overcomers. Overcoming is at the end of humble endurance. Eventually the people made it into the Promised Land.
LETTING GO OF THE PAST
In the midst of all of this humble endurance, they had to learn how to let go of the past.
That isn’t always easy.
We know they grumbled and complained and missed the fresh vegetables and leaks and the tasty meats they once ate in Egypt. They remembered how good the food was while forgetting that they were in the bondage of slavery.
Over time our memories of the past can get so skewed that we forget what is really important.
REMEMBERING WHAT MATTERS
What truly matters is that we keep moving into the future. Sometimes this means new things and a new path. Holding on to impossible memories will cause the realities of today to spoil as surely as that manna that was two days old in the wilderness.
Sufficient for the day are the blessings thereof.
We must learn through humble endurance to give up our ambitions and to surrender to God’s will for our days. What we often fail to understand is that He can see the end and we can’t.
God always knows what is best for us. The things He has planned for us always turn out better if we just overcome and endure to the end.
