UNDERSTANDING ELUL
We’ve been discussing the month of Elul. It is an important Hebraic month as well as a season of meditation, examination and repentance. Here are a few more important things to know about the Hebraic month called Elul.
- Elul is the twelfth month of the Hebrew civil calendar. It is the sixth month of the Hebrew religious calendar.
- Elul is about preparing the harvest for reaping. Sukkot and the final harvest of this year is right around the corner. This is the time to get ready to reap what has been sewn.
- The month of Elul speaks of the Hebraic acronym “Ani L’Dodi V’Dodi Li” which means “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine.” This is the song of the Bride of Christ. The beautiful song expresses the season of Elul in such poetic language: https://youtu.be/nDPrapGeteQ?si=MahqHzFJlPpuSLPl. This month is all about coming closer to our Beloved.
- The tribe of Gad is the featured tribe for this month of Elul. A special talent of Gad was his ability to efficiently organize camps, or a company. The gematria of Gad is equal to the number 7. He was Jacob’s 7th son. Jacinth is the yellow birthstone on the high priest’s breast plate (the ephod) for this month. It is the stone that represents the tribe of Gad.

THE STORY IN THE STARS
- This month’s astrological constellation is the star story of Virgo/Betulah. Virgo means “virgin.” Betulah means “whole, pure, unblemished.” Betulah is symbolic of The Bride of Christ who says Ani L’Dodi V’Dodi Le to the Bride Groom, The Messiah.
- The root wording for Betulah contains the same spelling as Bethel. Bethel means “House of God.” This meaning informs us that God’s “home” can be within us. It no longer has to be within a building or a Temple. It is time to realize that God inhabits the praises of His people. God can come to live within us. He dwells within our spirits and our bodies which are faithfully living in devotion to Yahweh.
- God puts His name upon us. Where we gather is now the place where He puts His name. Having the Name of God stamped over our hearts describes who we are. We are God’s children, whether native born, adopted or grafted in. Together we all form the living, breathing Tabernacle of God. God’s people moving together make up God’s house today. We are the people destined for The New Jerusalem. We no longer need a building to come close to God. All we need is The Light of Yeshua.
We love knowing Elul is such a special time on God’s clock. The month is significant in so many ways. The following verse confirms how we will see in The New Jerusalem. All of the efforts during all of our Eluls will seem like a great privilege when that day arrives:
Revelation 21:23: The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
