The Hebraic month of Iyar begins on Tuesday, April 29th on the Gregorian calendar. For us Hebraic thinkers who follow Messiah, it is Iyar 1, 5785. As we enter the second month of the Hebraic sacred year, we will see a new moon in the sky. A new moon means a new month. Another page of our year will turn. It is time to stop and reflect upon what we have just been through and then look forward and/or prepare for what this new month entails for us.
We have Nissan behind us now. Nissan was all about a new year. Iyar is the second month of the sacred year. We are still seeking God’s will and beginning to learn how to step into our purpose and destiny for this year. What would He have us focus on in Iyar?
IYAR IS A BRIDGE
A wise Rabbi told me to consider that Iyar is like part of a bridge from Passover to Pentecost. At Passover we crossed over to a new sacred year. This month we are walking across a bridge to a place of transformation which prepares us for our new destiny. We are still counting the Omer as we go through Iyar. Each day we examine our life before God. It is a way to prepare for Pentecost.
I love the enthusiasm of Debi Gatlyn as she speaks of Iyar. Here is her talk and it is a great way to think about the meaning of Iyar. https://youtu.be/Fo96l9wcX-8?si=BjOF5Q_OvyatJ0gD.
ISSACHAR
The tribe recognized in the month of Iyar is Issachar. It would be a great time to go back and study Israel’s blessing pronounced over Issachar. He speaks of a donkey bearing burdens and this could translate to mean that Iyar is a time when we are to help to bear the burdens of one another.
TARUS
We don’t do horoscopes here, but we do look at the constellations God placed in the sky at creation. These constellations tell God’s stories. Tarus is a bull. This is the bull of sacrifice. This month is a time to make sacrifices to The Lord. If you missed your chance to bring a sacrifice at Passover, this is also the month of the 2nd Passover. If you aren’t familiar with this concept, it might be a great time to look into it to gain further understanding.
MEANINGS
Iyar means “radiance.” When you hear this word you think of God’s Glory. It is radiant. Remember how Moses glowed when he came down from the mountain of God? He had been in the presence of God’s glory and it made him radiant. He had to cover his head. Be looking for moments of the glory of God and the radiance of heaven to fall in Iyar.
This is said to the the month of “connections.” We come closer and connect with Messiah by focusing on the ways of God. The connection of God’s Holy Spirit is coming at Pentecost. This is the time to be prepared to receive that connection.
Iyar is also said to be a month in which healing is taking place among God’s people. It is a great time to concentrate on asking God to send His healing to you and your loved ones.
VAV
The Hebraic alphabet for Iyar is “vav.” It represents the letter six, which is the number of man. The letter itself looks like a nail with a little hook on the top. Of course we think of the nails of the cross. The cross connects us like the letter vav. It connects us to God and redemption.
LAPIS LAZULI
Iyar is represented by the jewel called Lapis Lazuli. It is a lovely blue stone. Go back to the book of Exodus and find the references to Lapis Lazuli. We wrote about it in that study. Here is one lesson which goes into detail: https://theinseasonlifestyle.com/god-marries-israel/.
I pray that your Iyar is full of God’s blessing, healing, connection and grace.
