REMEMBERING THE BEAUTY AND EXCITEMENT OF MAY AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THE COMING DAYS OF JUNE
As we leave this amazing month of May in 2018; it dawns on me that The IN SEASON Lifestyle Newsletter publication is turning one year old!
We first started our Newsletter last June; and I feel it has been a great way to group and review all the happenings in The IN SEASON Lifestyle Community.
We offer our readers such a mix and variety of articles; but the one thing each article seems to share is a desire to live life according to 2 Timothy 4:2; and inside out and upside down just as Jesus and the Apostles taught us to do.
Many of our articles are simply about enjoying home and family and art of all kinds, as well as sharing ideas about leading a healthy lifestyle, and comparing our notes about life in general, which could include ageing, parenting and the joy of being grand-parents.
We also enjoy sharing our events and hobbies; but, whether it is specifically mentioned or not; everything we share reflects back to a simple, Christian lifestyle with a Hebraic slant and flavor.
Bible Study and exploring God’s commandments, Holy Days and festivals and Sabbath keeping are definitely our main focus. Family life done God’s way takes first priority in our daily explorations of the many changing seasons of life on planet earth.
We feel like May was so rich with all of the above! It is our hope that you have enjoyed every article; and we hope you will go back and review several of them from time to time and share with friends and family and on Social Media.
Your comments are always warmly welcomed here. Just think of our place as your second home.
This monthly Newsletter always puts the month’s articles into a handy summary for our regular readers; and it allows you to better see how our topics work and flow together.
HIGHLIGHTS OF A BEAUTIFUL MAY
DERBY DAY FUN
May started off running; literally; it was the running of horses and the Kentucky Derby.
We put our thoughts down in this little article that you might enjoy reviewing again. If you didn’t take our advice on who to place a bet on; good! https://theinseasonlifestyle.com/kentucky-derby-2018/.
Remember; it really doesn’t matter who won the race; just as long as your hat was the prettiest!
Obviously we are not very good at picking the top horse; but it is just so much fun to follow this race every year; and it supports so many good charities. Plus; we were just in the mood for enjoying our love for horses this month.
MOTHER’S DAY FUN
We continued to enjoy the results of those April showers with all the loveliness of the beautiful spring flowers of May. Some of that flower-love fell right into our Mother’s Day decorating; and we wanted to share our beautiful time with all of you in this little video. It was a perfectly lovely day! If you missed any of our Mother’s Day articles you can find them again right here: https://theinseasonlifestyle.com/purple-and-yellow-mothers-day/, https://theinseasonlifestyle.com/young-motherhood/,, https://theinseasonlifestyle.com/getting-ready-for-mothers-day-2018/,
A SPECIAL PENTECOST
After the wonderful Mother’s Day celebration we came to the end of our 50 days of counting the omer and arrived at Pentecost! I hope you caught our articles about this amazing day that God gave to us as a perfect gift. If not; you can find them here. https://theinseasonlifestyle.com/pentecost-in-a-vineyard/, https://theinseasonlifestyle.com/pentecost/. We had no idea at the time that May 25th was National Wine Day. Here is a link to another blog that speaks of it; in case you want to explore that thought: http://fortune.com/2018/05/25/national-wine-day-2018-suggestions/
Here is a little video of our day:
CELEBRATING MEMORIAL DAY
Pentecost was followed by some patriotic thoughts on Memorial Day. Did you share some stories? Did you remember those who have honored us with their service? We shared a few of the stories we love. I hope your celebration was as pleasant an experience as ours. You can review our thoughts on Memorial Day here: https://theinseasonlifestyle.com/memorial-day-stories/.
THURSDAY BIBLE STUDY
Our COME AS A CHILD on-going every Thursday bible study was filled with wonder in May. I hope you are following along with us as we walk through the bible each Thursday with the wide-open eyes of a child trying to learn from their Father. LOOKING FORWARD TO SUMMER FUN IN JUNE
We have a lot of fun planned for you in June.
Summer is right around the bend and we will be delighted to report on some of the summer activities that are happening all across the country.
GARDENING (A TOPIC FOR OUR SEASONS COLUMN)
For one thing; I’ve actually started my garden.
Finally!
Please pray; I have a brown thumb!
I’ll be sharing a few articles that speak of my experiences; some of the things will make you laugh; but hopefully we can learn this together.
BOOK AND MOVIE REVIEWS (TOPICS FOR OUR PEN ARTS COLUMN)
I have more book reviews underway.
This summer I’m stuck on Chip and Joanna Gaines. I guess you could call me a late-comer; since their television show is now finished (except for at least a million replays.) I’ve been reading their life stories; and I’ve been enjoying Joanna’s new cookbook. Keep reading for my reviews on ALL of the books related to the Gain’s family. I guess we can call it a grouped-book review; as they have MANY books on the market these days and all of them seem to be fascinating. I’m amazed at what two determined people can accomplish by the time of mid-life; but I really shouldn’t be; since I’ve read their stories.
As movies go; I’m planning a Girl’s Night Out to see The Book Club. I’ll let you know what happens and how that pans out.
SOME FRIENDLY ADVICE FROM MY FRIEND SUZIE (NEW TOPIC FOR AN APPLE A DAY COLUMN)
A close, long-time friend has finally agreed to give me a special interview on Staying Healthy after fifty. I’ve begged her to interview for a few years now. She is my inspiration for staying healthy after fifty. You will love getting to know her and hearing her stories in our AN APPLE A DAY COLUMN. We will publish this refreshing interview in our GROW OLD WITH ME column too. Last time I checked though; Suzie looked ten years younger. I think she has turned back the clock!
CAMPING FOR THE SUMMER (NEW TOPIC FOR OUR SEASONS/PEN ART/GROW OLD WITH ME COLUMNS)
Are you into camping in the summertime?
Tis the season!
What kind of camping do you enjoy? There are so many venues open in today’s world. When I was growing up it was Girl Scouts and GA’s. These days kids have a million and one choices. My grandson is into drama and he has some dance moves that would put Elvis to shame. I’m giving him a week of Theater Camp this summer.
Keep reading in the SEASONS section to hear up-close and personal about how Theater Camp turns out when you are 9 years-old and you come to visit your grandparents for the summer.
I’ll be going to camp with him every day; dropping him off and picking him up after a day full of busy acting activities, and cheering him on from the audience of parents and grandparents in the community.
He is a natural for the stage; so I’ve a feeling he is going to have a lot of fun; and so will we as we enjoy our annual summer week together. We have a few more summer-kids events planned every day for “after theatre-camp – but the production of King Arthur is the main event of the week.
SUMMER SIMPLICITY (MONDAY MENUS)
We will celebrate the simplicity of summer this June. Simplicity of time in the kitchen really counts with me in the summertime. Easy, fast, delicious works just fine. This is the plan!
When is the last time you enjoyed a good old-fashioned, slow-down during the summer time? I plan on drinking from this fountain as much as possible this summer; and you know we will be sharing it all right here in The IN SEASON Lifestyle.
Look for some new recipes for salads (I know I keep promising this – but we will try to deliver his time) and some ice cream treats that the grands will love. I’ve also got a secret to chocolate pancakes for the grands to enjoy. I’m as hooked on them as they are!
COME AS A CHILD BIBLE STUDY
The Thursday bible study on Leviticus will be continued in June. I hope you will be joining us every week. Leviticus is an amazing book of the bible. So far we have learned so much!
We plan to market the book from our previous study in Genesis soon. If you have signed up for our monthly Newsletter and special e-mails; you will be one of the first to know how to order.
FATHER’S DAY (NEW ARTICLE FOR OUR SEASONS TOPICS)
We have so many great ideas for Father’s Day this year!
The IN SEASON Lifestyle is also going to be re-sharing a few of the topics we shared last year; because some of those ideas were so good that they bear repeating.
Last year we held a poetry contest; but we are not planning to do that this time. Instead we are putting more energy into a few new articles on the real value of father’s in the world today.
You will enjoy these; so keep reading with us all through the month of June.
THE HOUSE DOCTOR WILL FEATURE SOME BEACH THEMES BUT WE WILL HAVE SOME TUSCANY STYLED THEMES TO SHARE ALSO
What is you favorite part of summer?
For me it is relaxing just the same as if I lived on a lavender farm on a vineyard in Tuscany. I want to let my summer decor reflect that type of feeling this summer. There will be a lot of yellow and lavender and blue as the sky colors to enjoy as we go through our summer activities at home. Making the house look like a farm in Italy is the next best thing to being there! Since I used a lot of these colors for Mother’s Day and I already have a lot of the accessories; it will hardly cost me a penny to have that luxurious feeling around me through a long, lazy summer.
You know THE HOUSE DOCTOR is going to have to share a few of the beach themes too!
We’ve done several beachy themes in the past. They are so much fun and they always turn out so pretty! We plan to re-share a few of our favorites.
It isn’t all about the beach this year though. We are not actually going to make it to the beach this year until our family trip in October. We have allowed for that fact by deciding to let the June IN SEASON Family Tree feature some beautiful summer sun-flowers. You are going to love it!
Come with us into fields of lavender and sunflowers as we learn how to make some summer wine in a kitchen full of sunflowers. That is going to be our family project for the summer. Maybe we can take several of the bottles with us to the beach this fall. I’m told that Fall is actually more appropriate for harvesting wine; but I’m studying how to accomplish the same thing in the summer. I’m sure there is a way if you are determined enough to discover it.
So June is going to be very special.
Stay with us and if you haven’t signed up for our monthly e-mails yet; you should!
A lot of behind the scenes things are in the works for the IN SEASON Lifestyle Community which we will be sharing with our e-mail followers in June and throughout the rest of this year.
There is a sign-up form at the end of each individual blog post.
God bless you all!
