It has been awhile since we did a feature in THE HOUSE DOCTOR Topic and we thought you might be interested in seeing how we have been decorating the house this Spring. We are still loving all of the greens!
You will not be too surprised to learn that we loved the greens of the Christmas Season so much that we decided to carry them over for a few more seasons. In case you missed them; here is one of our Christmas photos:
Back in December; EVERYTHING went green around here.
Before we show you how that turned out for Spring however; we have a few general recommendations of a few favorite websites you can click into if you are studying new ways to improve your home.

We’ve always said that THE HOUSE DOCTOR topics are all about turning a house into a home; and some of these interesting sites have been very helpful to us for achieving our home improvement goals. We thought we would pass them on.
The first site is one that is owned and run by Ruth Soukup; who happens to be one of our heroines here. She writes for the Living Well Spending Less blog and is also the teacher and mentor for The Elite Blog Academy where we have participated from time to time. Another person we have followed for years is Marsha Ramsland. She is truly the best at getting all things in life organized and ready for easy use in our homes. OUR GREEN SPRING IDEAS
Moving on to the spring-like greens of this lovely new season, we want to share our Green Spring decorating ideas with you.
THE WREATHS
The seasonal fun all started with the idea to fill the windows with sage green wreaths. They gave a warm inviting invitation to anyone entering the room to sit down and get cozy. The wreaths seemed to create a more “people friendly” feeling in each room where we hung them.
We started with the Great Room and then moved on into the dining area and the foyer.
DINING
For everyday we used our white china plates trimmed in silver and sage green coasters on the table. By adding a simple green ribbon to the candle sticks we achieved some color.
The gold table runner is so simple; but so elegant and we made it a bit eclectic by mixing it with a silver bowl holding some gold toned ornaments.
Simple, clean lines started out our season in the dining area. No clutter; just small highlights here and there that pulled the rooms together.
The wreath we chose for the front door was different in design. It had a bit more frill and lace and helped the entrance speak more of a softer welcome.
PLANTS
We added a green plant to our entrance secretary and kept the gold monkeys. Gold played well with all of our greens. They are not shown here; but we added three green plants in planters under the lamp in the dining area. To offset their green tones we put a little wicker basket full of sunflowers next to them. All of the green and yellow played well together. That area looks so cozy now.
We kept the lovely green table covering on the couch table in the foyer which we used at Christmas time, and we added some lovely gold candleholders to give us the use of some soft candlelight in our entrance way in the evenings.
PILLOWS
A huge green pillow was added to the white chair in the foyer. Some medium sized green pillows were also added to the sofas.
Even though my husband prefers our more modern chairs with everything; I chose to leave the traditional styled green chairs in the living room for a while longer. They look grand beside the plants we placed under the lamp. These two chairs stand alone without the need for any pillows.
PHOTOS
I kept the lovely round coffee table between them. I love its trendy black legs and the green and gold-leafed design on its surface. My scrapbook collection full of spring photos is laying on top of this little side table between the two green chairs; and it too has a gold trimmed finish.
I found some lovely photo frames with the colors of gold and green and put some of the latest pics of the grands inside of them. They are scattered all over the room.
Each child will look to see if their photo stayed inside the room when the season changed. They are never disappointed. I love seeing their smiles as we live out our days here.
CANDLES AND WINE
These greens and golds were so easily incorporated into the spring season. We scattered some candles and added some wine on the bar. These make the room warm and inviting for entertaining guests. The lovely white candle was a gift from our daughter. The smell was delicious as it lighted our way through the room this spring.
FLOWERS
At the very beginning of spring I filled the gold table runner of the dining table with little vases full of white roses. They were lovely and added an extra dose of the newness of springtime. I sat some white roses in a vase on the entrance bar and the couch table. They were lovely.
TABLEWARE
Then at Passover we added some special (new) green dishes with gold trim. I used gold silverware next to these place settings.
We added a gold and white table runner on the living room coffee table and the room took on a more festive flare for our Passover Seder. I added another table runner in the kitchen with a lovely gold candle holder.
FLEXABILITY
Everything was so flexible. The glorious greens of Christmas worked just great for the fresh new taste of springtime. It was a natural choice for St. Patrick’s Day and worked just fine during all of our Purim activities.
I will probably keep this look all through the summer too. We can fill the rooms up with ferns for Pentecost and Memorial Day. I will add a little red, white and blue here and there for Independence Day; but will leave the basic greens and golds for the most part. These colors serve well for backdrops and blend with the colors of every season that comes along.
Hopefully we will have more pics to share as the year and the seasons progress. For now; everything is looking green. I’m even considering painting the front and back doors a sage green. Time will tell.
I even made myself wear more green this year!
Go on out there and enjoy all the greens of Spring!
