MORE OF ABIGAIL’S SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Abigail walked in the gift of knowledge coupled with The Fear of the LORD. This was a great combination of spiritual gifts for the wife of David.
Previously, we spoke of Abigail’s Spirit of Counsel. It has been said counsel is a tree, and knowledge is its fruit. We often assume good works or biblical knowledge lead to a harvest for God’s Kingdom. However, the Spirit of Knowledge tells us all fruit must first be carefully inspected. Good fruit works in conjunction with the Spirit of Knowledge.
Abigail walked in the gift of wisdom. These two gifts, wisdom and knowledge, appear similar. How do we tell the difference? Both gifts, biblical knowledge and wisdom, are spoken of in Proverbs 1:7. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
THE GIFT OF REVERENCE
The Fear of the Lord, the gift of reverence, is another gift given to Abigail. This gift of reverence is actually required first. It must be present to achieve the gift of knowledge. In the verse from Proverbs 1:7, we read that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. In other words, reverence for God and His ways starts us on the pathway toward knowledge. This pathway develops wisdom.
Knowledge is relational. It brings us to know Yeshua. He is the pure definition of wisdom. We read about this in 2 Corinthians 1:30. “It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.”
Knowledge comes to us through study of the scriptures and prayer. Wisdom helps us to act upon the knowledge which is given to us by God. This is exactly how these gifts worked for Abigail.
KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM ARE COMPLIMENTS
One example of knowledge is looking outside and seeing the rain. Wisdom is grabbing the umbrella. Knowledge is memorizing the Ten Commandments. Wisdom is obeying those commandments in everyday life. Knowledge is learning about God. Wisdom is loving God. Knowledge in action becomes wisdom.
THE RELATIONAL ASPECT OF KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge is always relational. It is through our relationship with God by Jesus Christ that we have the spiritual gift of knowledge. This relationship provides the flow of God’s Spirit into us. Next, God’s Spirit flows through us to others.
Abigail’s counsel to David began with reverence for God. This produced good fruit. She used The Spirit of Knowledge to achieve peace. David listened and agreed with her. In wisdom, David acted on Abigail’s knowledge. The two came into unity. They agreed on God’s will for the circumstances. The Spirit of Knowledge always brings unity.
RELATION TO THE FEAST OF TRUMPETS
The marriage of David and Abigail represents a picture of Yeshua returning for His Bride. This plays into the picture and meanings of The Feast of Trumpets. Yeshua is coming as The King Of All Kings seeking a Bride filled with God’s Holy Spirit.
The Bride’s love for the coming King is the reason for the gifts of God’s Holy Spirit. Additionally, the King’s love for the Bride is the provision for such gifts.
CONTINUING THE STUDY OF THE LIFE OF DAVID
So, I hope the articles on Abigail have been interesting. Next week we will continue studying the book of 1 Samuel. We will start where we left off at the time David met and married Abigail. David has made some wise steps in the right direction. With Abigail by his side, he is well on his way to fulfilling God’s destiny for his life.
