CELEBRATING HOLIDAYS
We’ve spent a lot of time discussing Holy Days.
Then there are those other days called “holidays.”
Holidays are the typical seasonal days of the year which fall on our calendars for one festive reason or another.
HOLIDAYS ARE DIFFERENT FROM HOLY DAYS
Holidays are not sacred. They are still special, yet man-made days for celebrating the different seasonal aspects of our lives.
Unlike most Hebraic thinkers; I am not opposed to holidays, as long as they are not pagan.
I actually love and adore many of these dates on the calendar.
FOCUSING ON THE GOOD NOT THE BAD
Whenever the world celebrates the false holidays of Christmas and Easter, I try to find a way to focus on the good. There is always some good and that DOES deserve to be recognized.
If you believe in the sacred Holy Days of God, you will soon begin to see how prophecy has unfolded. You will come to understand that Christ was actually born during the holy day seasons which happen in the Fall. This season recognizes The Feast of Trumpets, The Day of Atonement and The Feast of Tabernacles. In the past I have celebrated the birth of Christ during The Feast of Tabernacles, which would put Messiah’s conception date approximately at the time of Hanukkah.
The neat thing about this time is that a birth always requires a conception. Date changers forget to consider that point. God tricked Satan. He allowed Christ to be CONCEIVED during the time men have come to call Christmas. He wasn’t BORN on that date; but He could have been CONCEIVED during that time of the year.
Hebraic minded people tend to think they can’t celebrate this season called Christmas because the people of the world celebrating Christ have the dates wrong; but guess what? As I said before; I believe God played a funny joke on Satan when he tried to use men’s ignorance to change the day that God had appointed. Count nine months from late December (Conception) till late September (Birth) and you will get the picture. A little bit of Christ really did happen in December, but that wasn’t the date God set for His birth. The Birth was in the fall of the year.
Christ was most likely born in late September. I believe He was born during the Feast of Tabernacles. That would mean He was conceived in late December, around the times most celebrate either Hanukkah or Christmas. For the longest time, I kept both.
In the past I felt I could join in with some portions of the celebrating of Christmas with everyone else and still remain true to the word of God. This seemed possible because I celebrated Christ’s birth at The Feast of Tabernacles and then celebrated his Conception in late December. My dilemma was a question asking should I pick Christmas or Hanukkah? For many years I kept Christmas in light of conception instead of birth.
That got to be confusing. No one ever realized my true intentions I finally realized that Hanukkah was approximately the same date. However, Hanukkah eliminated all the confusion of presenting a false appearance by joining in with those celebrating in error. Hannukah doesn’t present falsehoods; so I decided just recently to change my celebration of the Conception of Christ to Hanukkah.
The people celebrating Christmas actually do get part of this right when they say “Jesus is the reason for the season!”
LEAVING OUT THE PAGAN THINGS
For many years now I have NOT been celebrating the pagan things about the season called Christmas. I’ve only been celebrating the conception of Christ and the fact that He came as Emmanuel to be The Light Of The World.
When little kids with their modern-day fairy tales came to ask me about Santa Clause, I told them about St. Nicholas. He was a real, kind-hearted man who truly loved and cared for children. I only speak truth to children; because in the end the truth is all that matters. Children grow up. They remember who lied and who told them the truth.
DEFINING PAGANISM
It would be great if the whole world could learn the true definition of paganism. A pagan is a person who worships a false god.
Paganism is religion that honors false gods.
Who are you aspiring to honor with your actions of worship? Do your holidays and holy days conform to that belief?
God looks at the intentions of our hearts. True religion isn’t about the things you are doing in worship – it is about the deity that you are worshiping in the process. Are you worshiping the One True God? Then you are not pagan. Are you worshiping a false god? Then you are practicing paganism.
Two of the very same acts of worship can be taking place at the same time and one would be wrong and one would be right according to who the deity is that is being worshiped.
Let’s look at the example of prayer.
A Christian believer or a Jewish believer prays to God. A pagan believer prays to a false god. Both parties are praying, but one is praying to a true God and one is praying to a false god. One party praying is practicing true religion. One party praying is practicing paganism. The difference is the deity being addressed; not the praying.
If you take this fact to heart, you will always know the difference between true religion and false religion. They can never be the same thing.
We should always keep our worship God-centered. The One real merciful and graceful God forgives our mistakes. He does not tolerate paganism though. Elohim does not tolerate the worship of other false gods.
LOVING GOD’S SENSE OF HUMOR
You can’t tell me God doesn’t have a sense of humor. He made a way for the bases to be covered by believers even when Satan and plotting men tried to change the proper worship dates.
He even made it possible for us to get along with people operating under a certain amount of deception.
We don’t have to go through life defending ourselves constantly in order to enjoy our days!
Just take a deep breath, relax.
Enjoy the peace.
Never let the enemy rob you of your peace.
CONCERNING THE TWISTING OF THE FACTS OF RESURRECTION DAY
In days gone by I thought I had found a way to bring truth to the day that most Christian churches call Easter. I thought this could be possible even though I truly believed Christ was resurrected on the second day of Passover Week, which wasn’t a Sunday. It is written that this happened on the day of early First Fruits.
Each year I faithfully keep Passover Week, Early First Fruits and The Seven Days of Unleavened Bread. I do this using God’s original calendar. He follows the phases of the moon, which He hung into place and set into motion way back at the time He created the world.
Yet, I know that many haven’t realized this yet. I know because many of my fellow human-beings who are also made in the image of God, are celebrating resurrection on a day other than the one in which it first happened.
For some reason, I thought I could still join in with both celebrations. It simply turned out that I had a foot in both worlds. God doesn’t want us to be luke warm. I justified my actions because I knew the resurrection to be such a joyful thing. I thought resurrection could be celebrated every day of our lives. However, now that I’m more mature in the faith, I see I was only “blending” truths out of my own desire to create a false unity. I can’t do that anymore. God has changed my heart and thinking. True unity only comes from following God’s truth; not man’s.
GOD REMAINS IN CONTROL
After all, we all believe in God the Father, and Christ the Son and we are all filled with God’s Holy Spirit. It is amazing how the Trinity can bring peace into things. It is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit who allow God’s people to come together in a loving way. God’s way is our only hope for humans to experience complete agreement and unity. Sometimes it happens; when it doesn’t God remains in control. I do not judge others.
Then there is that other more trivial question. With the celebrations of Easter we have to consider the right or wrong of certain other “seasonal” traditions; like; bunnies and eggs. It is the same with Christmas and and the decorating of trees and the giving of presents.
All I can say is if you truly seek answers from God’s Word, He will reveal the truth to you. In the meantime, I won’t judge you and I hope you do not judge me.
BUNNIES, TREES AND PRESENTS
We all can usually believe in the things that the scriptures record. This would include all the lessons God taught the Hebrew people when He was first forming the Nation of Israel. It would include the Ten Commandments, the laws and statutes, and the Holy Days in The Torah.
I’m not trying to be Jewish (in race or nationality) or even trying to be Hebrew. No, I’m not a wannabe; I’m a Christian. For the record, I’m happy, proud and content to be exactly what God has destined me to be. If being a follower of Christ grafts you into the spiritual nation of Israel; you might even call me an Israelite. I know for sure I am a child of God.
Personally, I believe as long as you are not worshiping pagan gods, not keeping pagan ways, or not participating in pagan rituals then you are not pagan.
Hence; an egg is just an egg to me. At the same time, I can also relate to how an egg is a form of new life. My heart CAN relate to how new life is certainly an important aspect of Christianity. We believe we can be “born again.” I know the resurrection brought us all into new life. I totally understand those thoughts and concepts.
On the other hand, I do not worship eggs. I only eat eggs. I have eggs in my home and don’t consider them to be pagan because I am not pagan.
A bunny is just a bunny to me. On the other hand, bunnies do represent the signs of springtime in that little baby bunnies ARE seen hopping around in the springtime. Older bunnies are also seen seeking out the new green vegetation which covers the land in the spring. Bunnies are natural signs of spring, nothing more.
So I see nothing wrong with associating spring with bunnies and other seasonal things. It is normal and natural, as long as you remember that God created the bunnies and you do not worship the bunnies.
ALL KIDS HAVE FAIRY TALES UNTIL THEY GROW UP
The Easter bunny is a fairy tale. All kids seem to have a built in need for fairy tales until they grow up. I feel it is important to put the main emphasis on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Speak the Gospel in truth. The fairy tales will eventually become only the fairy tales; but God must always be presented to children as absolute truth that never changes.
If you are careful to observe God’s Holy Days, children will absorb the gospel through all the ritual that is so symbolic and beautiful. They won’t even think they are learning. Little children learn so much, so fast, in that way. Watching adults following truth sticks with them through the rest of their lives. It is up to all of the adults to set the proper examples and to speak the right truth.
TEACH CHILDREN THAT GOD IS THE CREATOR
God MADE all the seasons. He also gave us all things, whether they are sacred things or ordinary things. It is important for us to teach children the difference.
Cedar trees and stockings are ordinary things. They are merely objects. We could define them as material possessions. Yet; the lights on the Christmas tree CAN represent the light of Christ which ties into the mystery of Hanukkah. I CAN use my Christmas tree to worship God and not to worship a pagan deity. I did this for many years. Recently, I have transferred this worship from Christmas to Hanukkah because I feel Hanukkah is more specific to what I am celebrating and less deceiving to those looking on.
Trees are totally beautiful wonders of nature and acceptable to God. After all, He created them. Please don’t curse the trees. Do you not realize it was a tree that Christ hung upon in order that you could receive eternal life? That tree was certainly used of God for a good and amazing purpose. This is one reason I hesitated so long in giving up the use of a Christmas tree. I know God loves trees because we see this all through the scriptures.
Did God not create The Tree of Life?
There were several trees in the garden that God decorated with fruit and He and Adam named them. God is constantly using the traits of trees to teach us lessons.
There is a tree which speaks of Good and Evil. We were not yet ready for that tree when Adam and Eve decided to partake of it on their own in total disobedience to God. That is where our troubles began. Sin entered into the hearts of mankind. Satan meant this for evil; but God turned it to good.
Trees or no trees; it is important for adults to use every teachable moment to make sure children know what is important and what is REAL as they go along through life.
DISCERNING
I think as long as you recognize that these things the world notices and displays during each passing season were created by God, and you are ONLY worshiping God and not His creation; you are not doing anything wrong.
Yet, I realize at this later part of my life’s journey that merely giving an impression of wrong can still lead others astray. That has never been my intention. Since it is getting to the place of “later” in my own life, I want to live into that truth more and more.
We are made to be reflections of God. That means that our worship practices before others truly matters. God’s image should be what shines out from our actions. It is our testimony to God’s truths.
It also seems to be very important that we do not contribute in any way to the false causes of the antichrist as he attempts to deceive and divide people. With that in mind, the message displayed in a different color below is a more lengthy and more personal definition of my position right now. Some opinions and practices have changed since I first began to write in this blog. After all, life with God is all about transitions. If we never change are we really living?
LOOKING FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD
God often shows us the things we need to know in layers. That has definitely been the case for me. If you are truly following Yeshua with your whole heart, the first step after conversion is to get on the right pathway as you continue to travel through life.
I speak of that path which God laid out carefully at creation when He gave us the gift of time. He made a way for us to account for time even before He created mankind. He built this highway for us to travel even before He created us. We started this journey inside the garden. I call this path The Path of Light. Some call it The Way. This path is the road we must walk through on our journey to becoming closer to Our Father. The whole way is paved and managed by obedience to The Word. This road is ever-evolving in relation to keeping Torah. As we walk we learn. The more we learn, the more we realize how to live. We are constantly learning.
SEPARATION AND REGATHERING
What I have told you so far is very personal. We all have our own story. I’m simply sharing my own testimony. Every day has been an adventure full of new discoveries. The things I’ve shared are what I’ve learned as I’ve continued traveling down the pathway.
Part of this journey (after the gift of salvation) was all about discovering how many false doctrines and untruths we all have been taught by the very Church who claims to know God. Slowly, I began correcting things in my own life. I did this one thing at a time, whenever God opened my eyes to do so. The changes I chose to make were not about law, they were all about love for My Heavenly Father.
In every correction, there came a point of separating from others. Then afterward there was another process of coming back together with others. Each place where I hit a bump in the road was about the pursuit of real truth.
In times of being set apart we all learn there will come another time of coming together with those who have like minds. Just as Adam in the garden, we desire to commune with those who are our like kind. This process of separating and coming back together with the good is tricky though. It is easy to lose your way. You must maintain what you truly know from God during each step down the path.
The world and the ruler of this world does not like to see this learning process. Satan hates obedience to The Word. He and his demons hate to see one totally committed to God’s truth. They always try to isolate such people and keep them from fellowship with others.
WHEN GOD SAYS GO
So, when I realized I had been walking with those who did not see the further truth of God’s Holy Days, I came apart to live with God alone for awhile. This went on until God showed me others who were like-minded again. I remained friends with and prayed for those I had left behind on the road. Being a Christian is about loving all people. However, I also knew I had to keep moving on down the pathway in order to continue to grow closer to God.
Another day came for realizing that those I had now begun walking with in this new place did not allow enough love, mercy and compassion for others. I had to come apart again. It was necessary to remain separate for awhile. Again God taught me to pray and to continue to love those I had left behind.
OTHERS IN DIFFERENT PLACES FOR DIFFERENT REASONS
In each place on the road of life, all were followers of Yeshua.
Some of us were simply reaching different places on the road of life at different times.
God has His reasons for allowing some of us to move and some of us to stay in place for awhile. I suppose it had to do with our eternal purposes and destinies. Each soul is unique, each spirit has a different and unique purpose in God’s plan. Only God could fully explain.
However, I had come to understand some more new things and they mattered.
A COMMON MISTAKE
At this point, I made a common mistake. I knew the difference between living as a pagan and living in godliness. I had also learned to have love and compassion for all men while living that way. In this new place, I was learning to see people more like God sees them instead of looking only through human eyes that do not see all the way into the heart.
Then God took me further into the journey.
Suddenly I realized how in my compassion and fuller understanding of the truth, I had been “blending” things in order not to seem legalistic to my brothers. This too is wrong. It is more about being perfect and pleasing men than worshiping God.
I had to repent and turn around.
My desire was to be more unified with the brethren (as we are commanded to love one another), but now I could see that blending God’s Holy Days with men’s holidays created another problem. This “blending” gave the devil a foothold of deception.
The appearance to others became that I was worshipping and celebrating THE WHOLE HOLIDAY, the one I did not want to participate in. Though I was staying true to my own beliefs while keeping the holidays, people perceived my actions to be the same as those who were practicing all the wrong things for all the wrong reasons.
For example; I was seeing my Christmas tree as symbolic of The Light of Christ and there was nothing wrong with that. However, putting up a Christmas tree was also in keeping with the man-made traditions for change of date from Sukkot and/or Hannukah to Christmas. In short, what I was doing was not wrong in practice, but it did give the appearance of participating in one of Satan’s biggest lies. In trying to be unified, I was helping the enemy to promote more untruths.
EYE OPENING SCRIPTURE
What opened my eyes to see this clearly was the verse in Daniel 7:25 which speaks of the activities of the antichrist during the last days: He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.
This verse talks of how the antichrist will rule by changing our times and seasons. He is trying to raise himself above God in doing so. If we participate, we add to his deception!
By seeing a few things I could agree with and celebrating them on their wrong date; I was again (without really realizing it) joining in with a wrong intent.
I don’t want to participate in the lie.
DON’T GIVE THE DEVIL A FOOTHOLD
Now we all know that this lie has happened with most of the Christian church. The Sabbath has been changed to Sunday, and the Holy times given by God at Passover and Sukkot have been changed to Easter and Christmas. These man-made “in-your-face changes” to God’s set and appointed times make me not want to participate in these days of man’s celebrations any longer.
This verse from Daniel tells me if I participate, I shed my approval on the ways of the antichrist instead of the ways of Elohim.
I can not go there.
In the days to come, you will probably see more changes in the blog posts which reflect these thoughts. I will still love my brothers and sisters and show mercy and compassion, but I will no longer participate in keeping any of these days that are not set by God; but are set by mankind led by Satan.
You can’t just twist the truth around and get the results God intends in worship. I do not want to “appear” to be of one mindset when my heart and mind are truly captured by another way completely.
BEING ALONE WITH GOD THEN COMING BACK TOGETHER
So, once again, I have come apart from one group of worshipers in order to be refreshed and restored by God. As a pilgrim on the pathway who has been set apart many times, I know it isn’t healthy to stay out of fellowship with the rest of The Body of Christ for very long. We all need one another and fellowship with other believers is definitely healthy and good.
I am happy to say that God is already showing me new groups of like-kind and like-mind. He always does if I wait for His guidance. I will be joining in with those groups in the future. I am grateful to have found these Torah Keeping groups of people while also remaining in good relationship with those whom I have fellowshipped with in the past.
LIFE IS ABOUT LEARNING
Each place along the road of life has taught me something new. Every place has been good and I have loved all I met in every place.
Hence, the blog posts here will most likely reflect these new levels of maturity I am constantly seeking. I’m humble enough to realize I still have a long way to go. I’m just trying my best to stay on course and not veer to the left or the right while always seeking true North. I hope I do not lose followers; but I never want to write simply to be accepted and loved. I’m about truth and following the ways of God over choosing the ways of men.
More than ever there is nothing about me that desires to be in the place of pointing the finger, nag-preaching, standing on my own soap-box, or trying to force-feed God’s will to my fellow-believers. One sign of maturity is accepting God’s ways and letting God be the One to reveal them to others. My only part is to give, to love and to fellowship with those I meet along the road.
You will never find me posting negative articles about how I disagree with others here. However; you will find me encouraging those who wish to walk beside me in keeping the whole truth.
I have to say I am so very grateful for every step of this journey. It truly does grow more interesting and adventurous every day. My greatest blessings come from letting God use my discoveries in any way that He choses. It has always been my destiny to be sharing testimony through writings. That part of my purpose here will never change.
To God be the glory.
I LOVE WRITING ABOUT AND OBSERVING GOD’S SEASONS
So, in observing God’s seasons in these blog posts, we are simply celebrating the life and seasons which God has put into place. All of these are the things I love writing about.
The tendency we humans have to be creative with the seasons probably emanates straight from Our Father’s love of seasonal things and activities.
We imitate God’s ability to create things when we are creative. This ability can become a godly and proper response to Our Creator. Even more, these thoughts and activities increase our joy factor. Every day becomes filled with deeper meaning and significance. We stand in awe of our Great God. Daily we are compelled to worship with every breath.
CHRISTMAS THEMES GIVE WAY TO HANUKKAH
The same thoughts carry over in relation to things that people traditionally do at Christmas time. I actually do love how some of the traditional Christmas themes bring out the truth of the post-Mosaic celebration of Hanukkah. I’ve often noticed the parallels.
We know God did bring about the events that happened at Hanukkah. They are truthful and significant. It is good to remember this great miracle that happened to God’s people.
This is one area that I will be changing in the future. In the past I’ve kept a lot of the world’s Christmas traditions, but kept them in a truthful and worshipful way. I always thought of the conception instead of the birth. Because I changed the concept, I was thinking I was correcting the errors. Instead I was unknowingly inventing my own new ways.
However; now I’m going to keep things simpler and less confusing. I will celebrate Hanukkah in a way that reflects my belief in Jesus being The Messiah. He has fulfilled the meaning of the miracle of Hanukkah.
All of the important symbols of the true season can be found in the Hanukkah symbols and celebrations. That will mean using a Menorah instead of a Christmas tree. I will be celebrating the true miracles of God instead of the false assumption of the date in late December for the birth of Christ.
Of course, I will continue celebrating the birth of Christ at Sukkot. It was a very holy time and should never be forgotten or taken for granted. I love telling those stories. They are scriptural and true in every way. His conception will still be remembered during the celebration of Hanukkah.
CHANGING THE HOUSE DOCTOR IN RELATION TO CHRISTMAS
In other words, due to several new understandings at our house; beginning with 2025 we will no longer celebrate Christmas. There won’t be any more beautiful pictures of the Christmas trees and the decorating of our house in THE HOUSE DOCTOR column.
As a reminder of how things change and evolve as we grow and keep walking, I will leave the past articles for those who are not in the same place on the road. They are a beautiful part of my past which I do not regret; yet I no longer feel the need to continue those traditions. I feel the new ways will be even more glorious and more rewarding in the long run.
I look forward to keeping Hanukkah from the Messianic perceptive. I’ve always believed that the sign of the great miracle of light during Hannukah was a symbolic shadow of Messiah. He is the Light of the World. That was all I had been celebrating at Christmas anyway. I’ll still be recognizing that truth during the same month, only we will call it Hanukkah. I’ve learned so much more of the scriptural meanings from recent studies of the Menorah. I am simply letting go of some fake trimmings and unnecessary clutter and cutting to the chase with the truth.
Halloween was the first to go at our house. Christmas has been the last to go. As an effort to counter the lies of antichrist I am now deciding to celebrate only God’s Holy days and none of the other changed dates of men.
I hope this helps others to see the truth of Daniel 7:25. Jesus warned us not to be deceived in the latter days. I refuse to play into the devil’s lies any longer. It is time to put away all compromises, not only in holidays and holy days, but in every breath we take of the gift of time we have left.
FEELINGS ABOUT PURIM
I will definitely still be celebrating the post-Mosaic holiday called Purim. We will be continuing with the story of Esther. The story of Esther clearly points to the wicked Haman as a symbol of the coming of the antichrist. Esther took a firm stand against his evil lies, therefore preserving her people from harm.
I truly think that many of the deepest flaws of mankind could be solved by men who have come to believe the truth of Purim in their hearts. The holiday is all about destroying evil and turning to God for hope and deliverance.
Most people don’t understand that Hanukkah and Purim are not holy days; but they are man declared holidays. The Holy Days were spelled out by God in the days of Moses; these days of Purim and Hanukkah had not yet happened. However, they are still significant. Both are religious observances that recognize God’s plans for His people. They are holidays to celebrate God’s great mercy and deliverance.
KEEPING BALANCE AND PERSPECTIVE
If you look at the true and biblical meanings of things and stick to worshiping the Creator and not the creation; your Holy Days as well as the man-made holidays you celebrate will always be fun and happy.
There will be no need for false-guilt. If you ever have any doubts just find the places in the Torah which say “it is written.” You cannot go wrong if you stick to those events.
Any good and acceptable holidays will never be as joyful as the sacred times which God has appointed. They will just be special days in which man has chosen to stop and remember. On the other hand, God’s Holy Days will always be first, eternal and forever. They will also be a constant pointing to prophecy and the future days to come. These times are always helpful to us in our walk down the path of life.
When we leave our present times and go to live in eternity; we won’t have Independence Day or President’s Day or St. Patrick’s Day or Derby Day or Mother’s Day, etc. However, we will still have God’s Holy Days. God instituted them for us as gifts which will last forever.
IN THE WORLD; BUT NOT OF THE WORLD
In the meantime; I feel it is okay to go ahead and enjoy national holidays and celebrations for good and logical reasons. Just use good judgement. Don’t do anything God would not approve of. However, if any of them have even the APPEARANCES of paganism – walk away.
Letting God do the judging, I simply try to follow His lead and keep His ways as close as possible in my own home and in my own life. Also; I choose to let others do the same.
This is very freeing. Life is always full with many more joyful celebrations and beautiful seasons to look forward to.
CELEBRATIONS ARE FUN
I write about seasons because I love celebrations.
Also, I love the changing seasons. I love to celebrate all that is good with a joyful heart.
This is why I chose to write about all of the seasons of our lives inside this blog. Seasons can have so many different meanings. We must always be ready to give witness to how God works in each circumstance.
So if I haven’t lost you yet; stay tuned for more articles on the sacred, holy, appointed times of God as well as how we, as Christians with Hebraic hearts can celebrate special times with our nation and our fellow-man.
I honestly try to bring the “seasons” into every facet of my life. I hope you find this contagious and join in with me.
LIVING THE IN SEASON LIFESTYLE
Sometimes things will be inside out and upside down to the world; but they will be right with God.
I truly think that God gave us the concept of seasons and times for good reasons. Also, I truly feel He wanted us to live abundantly into our own seasons and times. I wish to share many more such thoughts here in the blog in the days to come.
Maybe this clears up a few of the questions about holidays and Holy Days. Know your thoughts are always welcomed here. Stay with us as we continue to go forward with The IN SEASON Lifestyle and cherish each new SEASON together.
