WHY I WRITE IN AN “APPLE A DAY” PART FOUR

HEALTH AND HEALTHY LIVING ISN’T JUST ABOUT THE PHYSICAL THINGS

Good health does not just involve the physical body.  It starts there; but good health encompasses the mind, spirit and body.

They ALL work together; that is the way God created us.

It is important to keep this in mind as we go along this journey to better health and delve deeper into each of these “health” topics on a regular basis.

A LITTLE OLD-FASHIONED COMMON SENSE SEEMS IN ORDER

I really believe there is a strong need for good old-fashioned common sense and basic informational articles regarding daily health issues.

We need more articles an ordinary person can easily understand, something without all the medical jargon; something that is written down in common, everyday layman’s terms.

Of course, that first step needs to be backed up with good research and accurate consultation of medical experts, and followed up by our regular physicians.

Slowly my mind has been wondering down this path, specifically pursuing education for my own healthy living; but also gravitating toward sharing this helpful information and such daily health improving experiences with others along the way.

PURSUING HEALTH GOALS AND KEEPING A JOURNAL

Health improvements became a lot for fun when I decided to make this whole pursuit an exciting adventure.  Everything is more fun when it can be an adventure instead of an education.

As a first step on my new adventure, I began to read about what it takes to form good and permanent healthy habits.

The very first article I read stated it takes about 45 days of doing something consistently to make it a life-long habit.

I wondered if I could ever last that long with anything.

Remaining hopeful; I decided to give this plan a shot and try to make one healthy change a day for a year.  The plan was to let each new thing build on each older thing until they all became well established habits.

Making up my mind to get committed was hard because I had my doubts about how consistent I would be with this.

Since I wasn’t sure I would be able to keep remembering each new thing I added each day; I logged each item down in a daily journal.

BECOMING MORE ACCOUNTABLE

For accountability, I began sharing my daily log with my friends on Facebook.  I noticed that these posts got more attention than all the others.

It occurred to me that EVERYONE was trying to put better health into their lifestyle.  Perhaps all they needed was a little motivation, the right information and a little inspirational shove in the right direction.

At first I thought all of this change would probably be challenging and interesting for at least a few months; then I would run out of “new things to try” and it would all go by the wayside and/or become very boring and monotonous.

Boy!  Was I wrong!

EVERY DAY IS SOMETHING NEW

This little daily journey toward healthy living has turned out to be one of the most educational and resourceful ventures I’ve ever tackled.  Every day there is something new.

One healthy idea led to another and another and another.  Soon I had enough information in my daily journal to fill a book.

Being a writer; I simply continued doing what I do best.  My journal turned into my new blog column.
