Should non-Jewish Christians celebrate Purim? I’ve read the story of Esther and I want to celebrate Purim. I’m a Christian. I am not a Jew by blood or nationality. Should I even think about celebrating the holiday called Purim? I know it is typically a Jewish celebration. However, what is Purim really all about and how would celebrating this holiday affect my world?
Have you ever asked yourself this same question?
The true understanding of Purim starts with the study of The Book of Esther. Let’s read the book of Esther in our bibles and begin to ponder whether or not non-Jewish Christians should celebrate Purim.
Have you ever really read that intriguing love story? If not; here is a copy of our own version of the story for your review: https://theinseasonlifestyle.com/king/. It is a truly great love story – enjoy your read!
CONSULT THE BOOK THAT MATTERS
Everyone should read and ponder the book of Esther. It is found in the books of The Old Testament.
During the time called Purim; this story from The Book of Esther is read, or told, or acted out in homes who understand the importance of the occasion of the miracle God gave at Purim. Could this possibly mean non-Jewish Christians celebrating Purim too?
I wonder.
The story tells all the details of how the celebration of Purim came about. It would be a good thing to re-read this story before the date for Purim arrives should you have not already done so.
HISTORY REVEALING HIS-STORY
Purim is full of important historical facts. If you look carefully at all the vivid details of the story inside the Book of Esther, you will grasp that the bloodline which produced Jesus Christ was saved from extinction on the very first Purim. Yes; it was the Jews who were saved. However; could this have affected non-Jewish Christians?
How should Christians relate to Purim?
You will NOT hear the Jewish celebrations speak of Jesus, but this story they celebrate annually is the MAIN REASON a Christian has for celebrating Purim. The Jewish are celebrating the saving of their race. The Christians are celebrating the saving of the Jewish race from which the Savior of the whole human race came from.
What better reason could there be?
WHY WOULD NON-JEWISH CHRISTIANS WANT TO CELEBRATE PURIM?
If you want to carry that a bit further; you can listen to this video which speaks of how Jesus is thought to have celebrated Purim. Could THIS be a reason for non-Jewish Christians to want to celebrate Purim? Are we sure? I’ll let you make that decision. I see no reason why He would not have done so though. Here is the video: https://youtu.be/X89b_qH9HSE?si=pcy-N1ON0-_MSrs8.
Should you be against celebrating the fact that the human part of the bloodline of Christ was saved from extinction because of Purim; I would have to question your Christianity.
The celebration of Purim is very biblical and very Christian. In fact, a whole book of the Christian bible is dedicated to this one story about of the life of Esther.
Had there not been that first Purim, no Jew or Christian would exist because the Jewish people would have been wiped off the map by Haman. We would not have had the birth of Christ, nor his life, death and resurrection which make our Christian faith possible.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE JEWISH CULTURE FOR CHRISTIANITY
Also, it is important to consider the crucial part of our salvation that has been played out by the Jewish culture. If not for the people we call “Jews” today; there would be no group called Christianity.
Roll those facts around in your head for a moment. Stop and consider how little attention most Protestant Christian Churches pay to the date of Purim. Catholics seem to appreciate this time a little more; but they too could improve on the whole observance of Purim.
Why do we want to walk away from such a beautiful portrait of Jesus?
Is someone trying to steal or hide our identity from us?
Has anyone ever warned that this would happen?
Think about it.
A CHRISTIAN ACTUALLY HAS MORE REASONS TO CELEBRATE THAN A JEW
As I already stated several different ways; Christians could not exist without the Jews, because Jesus was Jewish!
So you see – A Christian probably has more reason to celebrate Purim than a Jew.
The Jewish people commemorating Purim are only celebrating the salvation of the heritage of their people (which is not a small thing and this IS very important to them AND Christians in the whole picture.)
Christians are celebrating the salvation of the whole world which was made possible by the life, death, burial, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus Christ; who came to us through the Jewish nation’s bloodline.
This is the very essence of all that is most important to our faith.
JEWISH HOLIDAYS ARE PROPHETIC TYPES AND SHADOWS OF CHRISTIANITY
We can always look back in the history of Christianity and see proof that everything that happened to the Jewish nation of Israel (including all of their Holy Days and holidays) were shadows and types of how we Christians have come to enjoy salvation through Jesus Christ.
If you look with eyes-opened-wide by God’s Holy Spirit, you will see Christ in every annual Jewish Holy Day and/or holiday.
So – if you are a Christian – study this well.
Then join in the celebration; because it is great fun and a wonderful thing to do!
POST-MOSAIC HOLIDAYS
Purim is called a “Post-Mosaic Holiday.”
This is because the history that Purim commemorates happened AFTER God gave the Seven Annual Holy Days to Moses at the time of the giving of the Ten Commandments.
Purim took place long after the days of Moses. It was during the days when the Jewish people were recovering from the captivity in Babylon. Many of the remnant of Israel was still living in Babylon.
This post-Moses day called Purim is an annual holiday that men have decided to keep to honor one of the greatest miracles of God which happened in the time of the Hebrew captives living in Babylon.
The seven annual Holy Days which the Jewish people celebrate each year were commanded directly by God to Moses. Because they came directly from the mouth of God; they are always considered more important than the post-Mosaic holidays that came later. The post-Mosaic holidays were a memorial celebration that men designed; but one which honored God and how He saved the Jewish nation from extinction.
It is certainly a good and acceptable thing to honor God’s goodness to us. Another such example of a post-Mosaic holiday is Hanukkah which celebrates the miracle God gave of oil for the lights of the Temple after its restoration.
Purim simply remembers and celebrates the great miracle of God that gave the Jewish Nation’s people salvation, and eventually brought the whole world eternal salvation through Jesus Christ.
CURRENT DATES
In 2025 the holiday of Purim begins at sunset on Thursday, March 13th, and ends at sunset on Friday, March 14th. (Remember that God’s clock records days from sunset to sunset instead of sunrise to sunrise like our modern-Greek-styled calendars do. The day starts after sunset on the previous day and ends at sunset on the actual Hebraic calendar day.)
So this will be a fun filled week. We can begin our Purim celebration on Thursday evening, celebrate Purim through Friday evening and then move on into the Holy Sabbath Day. Better remember to be like Esther and think ahead and be prepared. This is a lot to do in one week. However, it will be a very special week in every way.
WHAT DOES GOD THINK?
No one can tell or predict the mind of God.
This blog would not ever attempt to do such a thing. His thinking is so far above ours. God’s ways are often too hard for us to figure out. We simply need to trust His Word and follow the path of Light that has been laid out for us from the foundation of the world.
The scriptures are very reliable. They do help us to understand some of the ways for how God thinks.
For starters, I’ll tell you a little secret, one that seems to be hidden from many Christians today; God loves celebrations!
The scriptures remind us to observe many important dates which He wishes for us to celebrate. God gave these days to us because we are official members of His royal family. These dates evolve around spiritual family celebrations.
If you are missing out on all of our Father’s Annual Celebrations and Holy Days, you only rob yourself! Come join in with the rest of your family! ALL are invited to God’s table; you only have to accept the invitation.
Never let anyone tell you different.

WE SERVE A GOD OF CELEBRATION AND JOY
Don’t miss the family holidays that our Father has taught us to keep. He wants us to be a joyful family, a family that plays together and has fun together. Our Father wants us to always remember the things He has done for us. He enjoys the fact that we like to celebrate those things forever.
God wants to see us smile and love each other’s company. He wants to see us have festive meals together and to set aside time just to be a family living joyfully with one another. If you have missed this one point, you have missed a big secret to joy in the Christian life.
Don’t let the world rob you of your joyful heritage!
So, go ahead!
